Bootable Media

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I got Acronis True Image 2016,

I am using a 2tb external hard drive formatted in exFAT as 2 partitions for Mac and PC. So far I have been simply saving everything once a week on each computer to the HDD.

What I would like to do ideally is to create bootable disks for each computer and just save the documents and other data once a week for recovery - while the bootable disk i can upgrade every several months if there are big changes.

I could use several USB keys, but I am wondering if there is a way to do it with just one HDD? I imagine if I have enough partitions that Acronis will let me write bootable media onto the HDD, but will I then be able to select it and/or boot from the right partition? Like lets say I have 5 pcs with 200gb backups each on a different partition. When I plug in the HDD, will it recognize the partitions as separate drives to boot from?

Or am I completely off and will need a separate large usb for each drive?

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately it is not possbile to do with just one HDD drive, as it will be most probably be in a "Fixed drive" state, and thus not supported as a destination for a bootable media.

If the HDD is in "Removable Media" state, it won't be possible to create more than one partition.

So I would recommend to use separate drives for this.
