Windows does not reboot after installation

Thread needs solution

I tried to install True Home 2016 on my Desktop PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. It's an old Core Duo 3GHz with 4G RAM installed.

After the installation is completed and asks for a reboot, Windows does not reboot correctly anymore. I have to revert to the last backup status of Windows. Does anyone have a solution?

I upgraded from ATIH2012, but removed the old version completely before starting the installation. Somehow ATIH 2016 destroys the system configuration severely. Windows is starting until the logo appears, but then reboots. Startup repair doesn't work, only going back to the last Windows restoring state (fortunately I did a complete backup with ATIH 2012 before installing the upgrade).

There is a "Cleanup Utility" for 2012. Many problems are often resolved by running the different cleanup utilities for their versions.

The utility reacts in a strange way: After selecting "Remove ATIH 2012 from your computer"  another window is opened asking, if I want to remove ATIH2011(?). When I select this option, nothing happens - obviously because I have deinstalled ATIH 2012 before. Anyhow the problem remains.

Bruneaus, could you please elaborate on what you mean "Windows does not reboot correctly anymore". What is happening?

I will try to run a bootlog file for more detailed information. For now: The computer is rebooting, Windows is loading, the logo appears and right before the login screen becomes visible the computer reboots again. Systemn recovery doesn't help.

I enabled logging and just tried to start it in Safe Mode. Doesn't work. AITH 2016 obviously messes up basic system configuration. I don't have any idea how to get information what's happening. I'm getting tired to play around in analyzing the system just to make a 30€ SW working. Most freeware can be installed without problems.

Hello Bruneaux,

I'm really sorry to know that you are facing the issue with the installation of the current product version! Such issues are often caused by the registry entries not completely removed from the system. Could you please delete the old product as described in the following article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/40366

Then clean up the %temp% folder and reboot the machine. Re-attempt the installation of Acronis True Image 2016. I would also check if the installation file is not broken.

Thank you,

Deleting the old product as described in the referred article doesn't work. Regardless which option I select (and I tried other product versions too to see where I end up) always lead to the same window "Remove Acronis TIH 2011 from your computer". Selecting this option doesn't do anything. Apart from checking the registry there is no sign of any program remains on my computer. I applied Microsoft FixIt, cleaned the temp folder, checked the installation file as described and rebooted. No effect. Installing ATIH 2016 messes everything up. If there are conflicting drivers or registry entries I can't find them - maybe I can remove them manually, if you tell me where to look. Changing the registry without knowing exactly what to do is nothing I will try on my own.

One more thing: I use my PC for basic work only. There is noc cracked SW, I have a virus scanner installed, I don't use any PC optimization tools, only Windows tools, it worked fine with any SW update I did in the past. I am experiencing this for the first time in my life being an experienced electronics engineer. Ans as such I am expecting commercial SW to run flawlessly.

Hello Bruneaux,

I see, that you have valid support program. Please raise a ticket, so that our support team can investigate the issue.

Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,

I got in contact to the compyny where I ordered the software. They immediately offered me a cleaning tool which was different from the ones offered in the forum replies. It was activated via the command line and removed the drivers and cleaned the registry perfectly. So everything is fine now. I could install ATIH 2016 without any problems. I really would recommend to reorganize the website with the cleaning tools in a more structured way. At least I was not able to identify the correct one.

Best

Wolfgang

Did they offer the 2015 cleanup tool?  After reading the thread, it sounds like you had already installed 2016, but the one suggested was originally for your previous 2012 version.  In most cases, the 2015 clean tool should be the recommended one (unless there's something even newer now that we're not aware of yet).
