Windows 7 Firewall blocks Acronis

Thread needs solution

Hi just a quick question,

I want to store my backups on another PC (same Network).

This Computer runs on Windows7 Enterprise. However the Windows7 Firewall blocks Acronis.

I already allowed Port 9876 as described here https://kb.acronis.com/de/brandmauer but this does not do the trick. I am sure it is a firewall Problem because if I simply turn the Windows Firewall off, everything works as intended.

Which system are you turning off the Windows 7 Firewall on to allow the backup to work successfully?
Is this the source or the target machine that is blocking the backup?

Hello Kristian,

Thank you for your posting! Please refer to the following articles:

Thank you,

Sorry for answering this late.

@Steve it is the firewall of target machine that seems to block acronis. If I turn it off completly the backup works fine.

@Ekaterina

I already have tried everything explained in your links. (thoug there is not much to try in the first place anyway)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario 1
You have Acronis Backup Advanced and there are connection problems from Machine A to your Acronis Storage Node on Machine B the telnet command would be:
telnet <IP_of_Storage_Node_machine> 9876

I don´t use Acronis Backup Advaned but Acronis True Image 2015. But I have forwarded Port 9876 on the Target Computer for TCP and UDP anyway. Does help in any way though.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario 2
Backup to Acronis Cloud fails with a connection error.
For verifying connection to Acronis Cloud Storage please use Acronis Cloud Verification tool.

I am not using any Cloud stuff

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adding Acronis executables to the Allowed list:

For a tutorial on how to allow applications to communicate through Windows Firewall see:
Microsoft Windows: Allow a program to communicate through Windows Firewall

As there is no Acronis installed on the target Computer, which is essentially just a fileserver this whole section does not hel in any way

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adding Acronis ports and hosts to the Allowed list:

If you have a strict policy in your firewall to allow only specific traffic and deny all other traffic you need to add connection to our hosts on specific ports to the Allowed list. In order to get IP addresses from a host you can use nslookup command:
nslookup <Hostname>
Where <Hostname> is the name of the machine you need to find the IP address of.

For a list of Acronis ports and hosts see:
Firewall Settings for Acronis Products

As statet in my 1st comment I have already forwarded the Ports mentionen in the Link.

9876, 9877 shoud there be anyhting more to open?

Hello Kristian,

Have you tried running the Incoming connections troubleshooter on the target Windows 7 system as advised by http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-port-windows-firewall#1TC=windows-7

Are your two system connected on the same local network, and if so, can you setup a firewall rule to allow incoming connections for that network as a trusted network?

See http://superuser.com/questions/231358/allowing-ip-range-in-windows-firewall which can guide you how to setup a custom rule to allow the IP address of the source computer through Windows Firewall on the target system.
