Acronis Is Preventing PC From Shutting Down

Thread needs solution

I only back up my PC once a month, with a non-scheduled, full backup. I have no scheduled backups, and never use incremental backups, or anything other than a full, single version backup. I am using Acronis True Image 2016 on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC.

Sometimes, when I shutdown the computer, I will get a full-screen blue gradient background with the following white text:

"Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait. The computer will be turned off automatically in about two minutes."

This happens even on the days when I have not done a backup. Sometimes the PC will eventually shutdown, and other times it will sit there for hours and even overnight without shutting down.

Now I'm guessing Acronis is running some service in the background. I don't know why I need this, since my backups are done manually, and it seems to be causing my PC from shutting down.

Can anyone offer a solution?

Thanks,

Dave

David, this has been reported as an ongoing issue across a number of recent releases of ATI as a search in the forums will show.

See https://forum.acronis.com/forum/101330#comment-324612 for a recent discussion and some suggestions of data that would need to be collected to allow Acronis to try to identify the possible cause(s).

https://forum.acronis.com/forum/100836 is another long running thread on the same subject.

Several users report similar issues, and Acronis is aware of these, but it seems no solution is a sure fix. A few things to try:

- make sure that nothing is interrupting the backup or the validation (external disks might fall asleep, network shares might become unavailable)

- in the task settings, schedule the task to run daily, for example,, then, under scheduler advanced options, make sure none of the check boxes is marked, in particular the "run when idle", "run at startup when missed", "prevent sleeping".

- if that didn't make any difference, try disabling the acronis services (run services.msc from the start menu). You can disable any except the scheduler2 service which is necessary even for interactive backups.

Hi David,

Others have reported this as well.  I've eperienced it too.  For me, I ended up completely removing ATIH from control panel, running the cleanup up utility, rebooting and reinstlling and the issue went away.  Every now and then it will pop up at shutdown, but usually only lasts about 30 seconds when it does.  I'd recommend reinstalling from fresh - especially if you did an upgrade from a previous version of ATIH to 2016.

If you don't want to do that just yet, and if you are not using any nonstop backups, perhaps try turning off the background service "Acronis Nonstop Backup Service" in computer management, reboot and see if that helps at all before doing a clean install.  Screenshot attached for reference.

Thanks everyone for your help. I went with the complete uninstall, and reinstall. After 30 minutes of repeated shutdowns, no problem yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!
