Specified File Does Not Exist - File Not Part of Selection

Thread needs solution

I am trialing Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation but my full backup to tape has reached 100% and has generated some 130 specified file does not exist errors in the log and the job will not complete. I have seen references to this being because a source file or directory has been deleted however the file refered to is not part of my backup selection.

The specified file does not exist.

I have also located an error at the begining of this problem with the following log information.

Hello Martyn,

Thank you very much for bringing up this issue. I will do my best to assist you.

The reference that you mention is probably this article from our Knowledge Base - Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: File Backup Fails with "The specified file does not exist" if the Source Folder Is Deleted.

At the moment, unfortunately it is difficult to determine the exact cause of this issue and provide you with a solution. I would recommend to contact our support directly with the following information.

1. AcronisInfo report.

2. Exact setup of the backup plan and your backup location.

If you require additional assistance or have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have the same error message for True Image Home 2010 build 7046 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. No source folders were deleted as this is the first ever and therefore full backup. Further, nothing got backed up yet! The issue seems to be Acronis adds a "(1)" suffix to the ".tib" extension which looks like another isssue in the forums. Here's my log:

Hello c teague,

Thank you for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

It is possible this error message is caused because our software has difficulties accessing your backup location. Can you please provide me with additional information so that I can help you resolve it.

1. This is a first full backup of disks a partitions. Where do you save the backup? Is the backup location FAT32 or NTFS?

2. Did you specify to automatically split the backup file?

3. Please run this reporting utility and send me a private message with it attached.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello Anton Deev,
Backup is an external NTFS hard drive over a USB port.
I did not put in anything about splitting any file
... needs 152 GB
... 455 GB available

I have run the utility BUT you did NOT include your email address.
Thanks!
Charlie

Hello Charlie,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, we are not allowed to send our e-mail addresses. However, you can always send me a private message. Please use the following link.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I have the same Problem like Martyn Elvy.
And it is not a " Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: File Backup Fails with "The specified file does not exist" if the Source Folder Is Deleted." isue
I made also a reinstallation of the Agent - Same Problem.
At the moment im trying to find out wich extra Backupoption is causing this trouble. I tryed with standard options and the backup worked fine without this warning.
It looks like the trouble comes from the VSS-Option but it's the most Important function for me.
What Martyn Elvy didn't wrote is the fact that these warning are ending up in a fatal Problem after the Backup is finished.
In the end there Acronis brings up a messagebox that the backuptask was sucessfully but if you look the status of the task you will see that it hangs at 100%.
For me it is not an eval like in the case of Martyn Elvy.
So i need a solution!

Same issue as the original poster. At first was showing up sporadically, even after a series of previous Differential backups had completed successfully over several days or weeks time; then all of a sudden the task would start showing the log file copying/does not exist errors. I have also tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling ABR10 Workstation Standalone, including using the Acronis Cleanup tool. After I did that, now EVERY backup task created gives the file errors in the log and the task(s) reach 100% and will not finish. The errors show up just after completing the partition creation task; then:

There is some problem going on between creating a TEMP file and then copying/moving it over back into the original location.

ABR10 Workstation Standalone build 11639, Window 7 Home Edition 64-bit, Lenovo T400 laptop.

This has been a long-standing problem, even if sporadic. Hard to believe there hasn't been more reports on it. Also hard to believe that there are no Knowledge Base articles on the Error or Event Codes for the specific errors above.

EDIT: I am running Kaspersky Internet Suite 2011 and just added each of the Acronis pgm elements to the Application Exclusion rules and re-ran my first backup task which completed successfully with no errors. I am in the middle of running the other 2 backup sets and it's looking good so far. So it's possible, at least in my case, that the culprit is KIS 2011 (build 11.0.1.400(a) and not ABR10. I know that in at least one other instance, running a small Win7 pgm called "Core Temp", KIS 2011 was automatically deleting the executable each time it started up as a false positive; after adding it to the exclusions list, it has also been running fine. Will let you know if my other 2 backup jobs complete successfully after  changing the KIS settings.

EDIT2: My remaining 2 backup jobs completed successfully without error. For what it's worth. These 3 tasks were newly created full backups. I subsequently do differentials so will have to wait and see if the problem as I experienced it remains solved. I have another laptop, same make/model, that has also experienced the problem so hopefully this will handle it on that machine as well. If I don't report back then all is well.

Hey this was a very good hint.
I deactivated the Kaspersky Antivirus runing on the Server and surprise, surprise - The backuptask with VSS activated is runing just fine.
I will reactivate Kaspersky later to see if the problem comes back. (have to do this because i tryed so many things...)
Hopfully I will figer out wich component must be excluded in Kaspersky.
I also searching in the Kaspersky Log to find the bad interactin but till now i didn't find anything. Maybe activating full loggin will help me later.

bboyer, thanks very much for the tip. I seem to have the same problem several jobs have just hung at 100% and never completed. Then I discovered similar errors messages. Never had this problem before upgrading ti Kaspersky 2011.

Trying a job now with Kaspersky AV 2011 paused. Hopefully it will complete. I originally switched to Kaspersky because it was the only AV I could find that didn't do more harm than good - hope I don't have to go looking for another AV product.

Could you detail exactly which Acronis programs you added to the Kaspersky Application Exclusion Rules?

Thanks,
Michael

Not having the time to mess around and try to narrow it down to a particular module I just excluded all the Acronis items in KIS:

Settings>Application Control>Applications>(expand Acronis Folder)>(double click first one listed)>Exclusions tab>check each box > click OK then go on to the next one listed

I did have the problem recur once on my other machine after I'd done the above, but after I deleted the backup task that it occurred on and recreated it I have not had the problem recur; it's now been several days and differential backups later with no problem. Hopefully won't see it again! So, should you encounter the same error(s) after excluding Acronis modules in KIS, then I would suggest deleting the old or current backup task, create a new Full backup task with subsequent incrementals or differentials, and see if that works.

Btw, the "Event code" I was receiving is: "Event code: 0x00A20025+0x00040011+0x0000FFF0" - for some reason whenever you use the "copy to clipboard" button on the ABR10 log view it fails to copy this part, truncating it, but it's needed to look up Knowledge Base hits ... how stupid is that? Not that it matters much in this instance since there is nothing in the KB about it anyway, which I find strange.

Here's hoping it works for you; good luck.

Pausing Protection in Kaspersky AV 11.01.400 did allow the full backup to complete normally, so that seems to have been the problem. I also deleted and recreated the task, so that may be necessary too. Thanks again for sharing the tip.

I didn't think about Kaspersky already having the Acronis programs in a list -- figured I would have to go fishing through the file system :). And it looks like I was right. That may be a difference between KIS and KAV. For KAV, it looks like you'd need to go to

Settings, Advanced Settings tab, Threats and Exclusions, Exculsions Settings and add the programs.
In my case, it did have a ManagementConsole.exe and TrayMonitor.exe in the Application list. But it did not have the Managed Machine Service, mms.exe, which I bet is the most important one so I had to browse to it. Also browsed to add Acronis Remote Agent and Acronis Scheduler Service for good measure.

I agree on the Event Code not copying to the Clipboard, not that it did any good with the KB. Actually I was annoyed that the Event Code wasn't automatically embedded in the link to the KB - that would save copying and pasting in the first place and should be easy to do on the programming side.

Thanks again,
Michael

Thanks for letting us know your results, Michael. Ah, I read your first post too quickly and didn't catch that you were using KAV vs KIS. Anyway, glad it's worked out for you so far. It would appear that Kaspersky 2011 products are not quite ready for prime time and are being rushed out the door so to speak, as is the case with so much software (including, as I have found, Acronis products). Still, imo they (both Acronis and Kaspersky) probably do continue to represent "best of breed" in their respective categories, all things considered.

Hello all,

Thank you for finding the time to post your valuable comments here.

I will forward this thread to our testing lab so that we can reproduce the issue and come up with a solution, in case this problem is really caused by Kaspersky Antivirus 2011.

As soon as I have any information, I will post the results here.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hallo,
in the last 2 weeks i've been in hollydays.
For this time my different backupjobs worked fine.
But ihave to telle you that this problem is not limited to KAV / KIS 2011
On this server "Kaspersky Antivirus for Windows Server" form the "Enterprise Space Security pack" is used.

But now i have still a little Problem.
On trying to find the problem the support told me to delet all tasks with a special comandline tool.
Now it looks like i deleted to much. Every sunday I get an error on 08:01

A task with ID 'EB497951-4DCF-41DB-9264-824EF4AB45B4' does not exist
