Backup drive lost mbr but recovered files all corrupt.
Any advice on recovering tib files from a damaged mbr drive?
i was able to get back files but all of the tib files are wont open. i tried disk diector 12 but it came back with ext4 partitions only... i did not see file recovey in dd12. just partition recovery but if dd12 will help ill try it.

I can just double click on the tib file and I can go into the file and a dialog opens asking for the previous volumes. i can open the volumes but the contents are not there.

It was NTFS. DD12 just came back with all ext4 partitions for some reason. Other tools did not but i will look at it to see if i can glean anything.

If this is a damaged internal or external backup / data drive, then you may need to use some recovery software to try to get back your files, but the success of this will depend on the nature of the damage on the drive.
Easeus Recovery Wizard offers one possible recovery utility.
MiniTool offer another utility.
A tool that I have used to detect and repair bad sectors on drives is HDAT2 on Hiren's Boot CD - you would boot from the CD and then select DOS Tools for this utility. See attached document for example of usage.

My first go around I used Minitool Data recovery to pull out the tib files. It did but Acronis does not like them...
The other problem is that the tools out there will recover 1G of data free but you need to pony up to get more. All of my files are greater then 1G so I pay and then Acronis says no this files I will not open.
The drive should be fine. The MBR was damaged when I placed a 3T drive in a sata to USB adapter the drive never mounted and when I placed the drive back into the SATA socket it would not mount and Windows reports 2 partitions unallocated one of 2T and another with ~750G. I never hit the would you like to format the drive? But Windows still chuncked the MBR trying to mount it I guess.
Right now I am running Stellar and will try EaseUS next...
Side note:
I was using Intel RAID 5 with a spare drive and spuriously the array removed 2/4 drives and never used the spare. Drives tested fine... Done with Intel Motherboard RAID. So I switched to an Adaptec 6805 running RAID 6.

Unfortunately the chances of recovering valid TIB files from a damaged disk are low. The smallest change in the recovered will invalidate the internal checksums and render the backup invalid. Of course, you should try, but have very low expectations.
When TIB files are declared corrupted, you might have some luck if you copy them to another disk, or if you open them with Windows explorer. Most likely, you won't get access to all the files, if any.

So after my MBR corruption by placing a 3T drive into a 2T limited SATA->USB adapter Thermaltake BLACK X...
- Minitool partition wizard 9.1: Saw the partition and the files but the tool would not allow me to copy the files out. (free version) Perhaps it was that I did not license the tool or something but it was not obvious what to do or what the issue was.
- Minitool power data recovery 7: Recovered the TIB files but they were corrupt and would not mount via Acronis mount. (Licensed)
- Stellar: Was not successful for me. Stellar scanned and then said it had scanned but showed nothing to recover. (free version)
- Tried Data Rescue PC3: PC declared low memory 10% the way through and then locked the system. (free version)
- Seagate Data recovery 2: Detected the files quickly so it must have used the damaged/partial partition. Copied the files out and Acronis mounted the tib files no problem. (Licensed as Seagates trial version limits to 64kB files)
This is making me question if I should use Acronis TI for Backup as it seems to be a valid or invalid model that cannot perform partial data recovery. Perhaps this makes the file smaller or quicker to backup but when it hits the fan and your Backup of Backup drive has an issue I would like to be able to at least try and recover some data and the fact that it cannot recover any information from a corrupted file is at least a concern and at most a risk. To me it is even more interesting that Acronis does not even provide a partial data recovery service... Upload broken tib file, pay money and get back a zip or the best possible tib file back. Since this service does not exist than there must not be any redundancy built into the format and instead using "previous versions" as a redundancy. But I think this is less useful in the world of 6T drives as your tib files are going to be very large and the chances for data corruption increases.
I was thinking about trying to prove this by inserting errors into a tib file and see what happens when I try to mount the image but then I thought shouldn't Acronis be able to provide the data and demonstrate that its backup solutions are robust? I looked around and I did not see anything. Does anyone have any performance data on tib files?
I did see a corruption flow chart that dealt mostly with it must be the Hardware... Check the cables, check the memory, check the HD... Why the tib got corrupted is not the point, the point is that the file that I have is corrupt. Now what? The flow chart is misleading in that the flow chart should begin with you have a corrupt tib file not end with it so you can actually try to recover the data. If this flow chart was for a weight loss center, it would begin with... Did you eat fruit? No-Did you eat pie? Yes. Did you put whip cream on the pie? Yes. You are overweight and you should not have done those previous things.

Please report your issue using the Feedback either in product in the Help Section of the GUI (open book icon) or from the Acronis Support page. Since this involved a recover issue there is no time limit of recovery support so you may contact them directly.
I have no idea why your tib file was corrupt and as you say that is not the point. The points you do raise are certainly good ones. The only way to get those before the developers is via the feedback so again, please use it. Refer to this thread in your feedback.
