Acronis Boot Disk - Won't create clone to network drive
I work in a small computer repair shop. We have been using Acronis 11 for quite some time now, and decided to set up a server mainly for that.
Basically what we do is if a customer wants their data backed up, we will make a clone and store it on an external hard drive for them. Now what we did is set up a server, with the intent on starting to use it over a network to clone to.
What we are trying to do is connect the server to the network, connect the to-be-cloned machine to the network, and clone that machine over the network to the server.
I set up a server, running Linux Mint, and created a shared folder called 'server1'. I made sure I set the sharing options up... checked Share this folder, gave it a Share name of 'server1', allowed other people to write to this folder, and allowed for guest access.
The problem I'm having is when we try to connect to the server over the network... it sees the 'server1' folder fine... but won't write to it. The 'Next' button in Acronis stays greyed out. (I've tried both manually clicking to where I want the .tib to be saved to, and entering '\\SERVER\server1'... neither work.)
I've gone back through and double and triple checked my settings... and its still a mystery to me.
Could this be a problem between Acronis and this Linux Distro? Something I have set up wrong?
Would this be solved if I installed a Windows OS on the server?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have used Acronis before -in fact bought last years version. Today in my wholesalers -I bought true image home 2010 along with a 1TB Iomega 34237 home media network HD (NAS)
This combo was recommended as easy to use for my customer. I spent hours trying to clone the "c" drive (80gig) to the external network drive (1TB) but Acronis says it can only see the 1 drive ("C") .
I then use another product called "East Tec" which had no problem seeing and backing up files to the network drive!!
Problem is -I want to clone the drive and that is why Acronis was recommended.
In fact I was told to get the more expensive network drive as it would be much faster than the usb option.
thank -you, hope you can help
p.s. the operating system is XP pro.

Hello,
MudCrab, thanks for your help.
Alan and Kim, let me assist you.
Alan, please make sure that you've set up permissions on share correctly, since it might be the most probable reason of the issue.
Kim, please note that you can back up your PC and save the created archive to a shared folder, not to clone it. Clone tool aloows you to copy/move data only to internal or external (USB/FireWire) drives. Did you try to save the image in Windows environment or under bootable Acronis CD?
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.
