Startup Recovery Manager already activated, I didn't activate it.

Thread needs solution

This is a query.

I got myself a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB and I had to make a WinPE-based media with plug-in when I found the old method of just using a bootable rescue media wasn't working.  That worked fine no problem.  Today, I tried to switch on the Try&Decide and I cannot start it because the Startup Recovery Manager is already activated.  I deactivated it and tried the Try&Decide again, still said I can't do it, so I deactivated the Startup Recovery Manager and restarted my machine and it gone back to activated again

Thing is, I did not activate the Startup recovery Manager so is it related when I was using the WinPE-based media with plug-in?

I have not seen that behavior before (although I don't use ASRM or Try & Decide though).  However, I just moved to an NVME drive as well so will see if it is showing as active for me or not as well (won't be able to test until later tonight though).  The WinPE is the only way to make an image or recover on the 950's at the moment due to lack of driver support in the default Linux bootable media.  It should not be doing anything other thany copying the data and/or restoring it though.

There are issues with upgrades of ATIH at times (did you upgrade from an eariler version of ATIH, or did you have Acronis installed and possibly upgrade the OS?) It might be worth trying the ATIH clean tool to completely uninstall and remove the product and then reinstall as a test.

2015/2016 Cleanup Tool Instructions

This behavior was observed during BETA testing of TI 2016.  It occurs on X64 based systems using GPT formatted disks.  The ASRM is probably not really activated as TI 2016 reports.  Use Diskpart to check the number of Partitions on your disk, I think you will find that ASRM is not there.

Thanks for your help.  I upgraded ATI and it's a clean install of Windows 10 Pro build 1151 64-bit.  Oh you're right, the ASRM is 'activated' and it's not in the list of partitions.  Is this something I can't really fix, like the cleanup utility and re-install ATI 2016 or instead wait for Acronis to fix it?

You can uninstall 2016, run the cleanup utility, and reinstall 2016.  This does resolve a number of issues.  What you are experiencing may be a carry over from a previous install.

Ok I'll do that.  I'll follow Bobbo_3C0X1's instructions and post the results here.

I did the cleanup and re-install and it didn't work.  Still the same.  Thanks for your help and to Bobbo_3C0X1 for his instructions, much appreciated.  So I think I am stuck with this until Acronis fixed this.

As info, I have the same situation that you do on an X64 Win 10 PRO with TI 2016 install.  The Try and Decide feature does not work on it and any time an attempt is made to run it the same error that you get stating that ASRM is activated comes up.  So like you say your just stuck with it until ist is fixed.

By the way, your system specs are impressive.  Its nice to see another Custom System builder here on the Forum.

It's no biggie.  I could use my backups to undo the changes.  I'll sit tight until then.  Simpler times when we all had HDD and MBR, and now confusing storage protocols and different sizes of M.2 which can hamper choices for the motherboard - it's a bit of a mess to be honest.  Thank you for the compliment.  I've been building for a while.  I use my machine for gaming, overclocking and everything really, and it's the nerve centre.  Some people seemed to think custom building is hard but I always tell them it's easier than they think.
