How to retrive my family photos out of old tib file?

Thread needs solution

I have a tib file from 2013. Likely it was created with 2011 version of the program. The size of the file is 4G. All I need from that tib file is approx 100 Meg of family photos.

I downloaded and installed a trial version of TI 2016. But I can't figure out how to retrive the photos out of tib. When I apply the retrive option, all I get is the old tib nested into a new tib. What do I need to do to get my files out.

TIA

Boris, with ATIH 2016 installed you should be able to use Windows Explorer to navigate to your old TIB image file, right click on this with your mouse and look for the TrueImage option which will then allow you to Mount the TIB as a drive letter assuming that the image is of a disk or partition.  Once mounted you can use Windows Explorer to copy any photos from the image file.

Boris,

I am not sure if the Trial version has the ability to "Mount" a .tib file.  The link below shows the limitations of the Trial version, but it does not address "Mount".

The link does state that you have to boot from Rescue Media in order to perform a Restore.  So, if you cannot Mount the .tib file, you  will need to create the Rescue Media, boot from rescue media, and perform the restore.

Steve, thank you for the help.

When I try to mount, I get an error message. It's attached. I tried a couple of other files, with the same result.

All I remember, I was always doing full backups, not incremental. It appears that new versions of TI can't read old files.

FtrPilot,

Thanks for the help.

I think it goes beyond my technical abilities. What are my other options? If I buy 1 month of Acronis cloud service and upload my file, would I be able to retrive my photos on the cloud and download them?

TIA

Boris, I have just looked at KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/1689 which would look to suggest that ATIH 2016 cannot read images from earlier than ATIH 2013, and that you would need ATIH 2015 to read one created by ATI 2011.

If you still have access to your Acronis Account, then the best suggestion I can offer would be to login to your account and download the rescue media for the version of True Image that created this TIB image file - this should hopefully let you boot from that rescue media and recover the desired photos using a compatible version of True Image.

Boris,

Creating and using Rescue media is not difficult.  Based on Steve S. information and recommendation above, I concur that downloading the rescue media for the version that created the backup is your best way forward.  If you download the rescue media and then have problems, I am confident that Steve S, or myself, or any of the other MVPs will be able to help.

With regard to using the Cloud...I believe that would not work.  I believe there is no provision to directly upload files.

Steve S.  Thanks for the compatability link...very useful information.

I downloaded file ATIH2011_en-EU.iso. Acronis calls it Bootable Media. Is it the same as Rescue Media? What do I do with it now?

TIA

Yes, bootable media is rescue media.

You have to "burn" it to CD/DVD. Put a blank CD/DVD into your CD/DVD slot. Using Windows Explorer, double click on the .iso file.  It should bring up the CD/DVD software program for copying files onto the CD/DVD.  If double clicking doesn't work, then try right clicking.

After the copy is complete, you will have to set your BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD.  If you have questions on how to set your BIOS, we can answer after you have completed the CD/DVD burn.

Let us know how it works.

Can I use a memory stick instead? Otherwise I will get a blank CD tomorrow. Was not using them for ages.

Yes, a memory stick will work.  However, it is not as simple as copying the iso file to the usb.  You will need 3rd party software to create the USB boot drive.  The link below is for an app that does just that.  The non-commercial version is free.  Note, in the process, all data on the USB drive will be destroyed.
