Hello, if I understand your question and situation correctly - you have just done a fresh installation of Windows and have installed ATIH 2016 then added an existing incremental backup image into the application?

I am assuming that when you say an existing incremental backup, that you mean a complete incremental version chain of images, i.e. an initial Full backup image followed by one or more incremental backup images?

When you add back an existing backup image to the ATIH application, you still need to reconfigure the settings to be used for that backup task, i.e. tell ATIH what type of backup you want to create, what schedule should be used, any cleanup options, any notifications etc.   You will not see a RUN now button until the configuration has been completed.

Hi Steve

thank you very much for the fast reply.Yes that is right and when i click on the reconfigure i just then hit okay button and there was no progress but i now solved it there was an options button that allowed me to reconfigure the settings again and now it started backing my pc up again.

another question is,is there any guide that explains universal restore?i will change my motherboard and i am deciding to use the uıniversal restore. But i dont know how to do it?

thank you again

Hello, glad to hear that the backup problem is solved by reconfiguring the settings.

For Universal Restore, see KB document https://kb.acronis.com/content/45432 - don't be put off by the title being about Troubleshooting Universal Restore... see the section for Introduction which has links to more information about this tool that may help get you started with understanding how it is used.

If you are intending to change your motherboard then please be aware of possible Windows Activation issues that can arise from this action as all OEM copies of Windows are tied to the specific hardware they are activated on and cannot be transferred to different hardware (a new motherboard would definitely count as different hardware!).  If you have a full retail copy of Windows then you should be OK with moving the OS to the new hardware.

Hey guys, I am in trouble and maybe someone can help.  2 days ago I was reading a newspaper on the internet and up pops this screen which says 'downloading Windows 10'  I mildly panicked as I wasn't ready for 10 yet but was afraid to turn off the computer for fear of losing something.  So, friends have said Win10 in wonderful so I said, 'what the  heck'.  The program downloaded and installed without a glitch; I answered all of Microsoft's quesions about passwords, phone numbers, etc and it looked good to go.  Started using and it  was faster than 7 Pro, sent a few emails, received a few, and typed a Word letter and sent it.  Everything looked wonderful so I shut down and went to bed.  The next morning, I cranked up the laptop and entered my password and no joy.  Incorrect password.  So I tried my old Win7 password, no good.  I called Microsoft and was shuttled off to an Indian Company that said, no sweat, we can restore Win7 so I spent the better part of the day with them jacking around with my computer and sure nuff, I now have Windows 7 but no data, no software.  I am on a backup computer now.  I did a full system backup of the computer a week ago.  My question is SHOULD I FORMAT THE DRIVE IN THE COMPUTER THEN RESTORE THE FULL SYSTEM BACKUP.  I do have boot media for the computer.  Since a lot of disk space over and above what I had before is being used, I suspect that Win10 in resident somewhere that I can't see. Besides the Win7 version the Indian Company installed is a Dell version and looks like crap on my Lenovo Laptop.  So what's the recommendation from the group? What do I need to look out for in the restore process as all I have ever done for the last 5 or more years in backup.  Luckily I bought the 3 computer license with 2016.

Many thanks.  Ed McDowell

AT this point, it doesn't sound like anything is of use on your computer anyway (no apps, no data, weird OEM Dell version, etc.).  If you have original licensing, you could reinstall fresh and be no worse off (probaby better than you are now).

When it comes to restoring, youd do not have to format first, but it won't hurt.  The disk just needs to be initialized for Acronis to see it, but the bootable media can do this too (if need be).  If you have a full image, I would go ahead and format, just to be sure there is no OEM recovery partition or anything like that when you restore.  When you restore, push the entire image (all paritions back to the original drive) and it should just boot and be exactly like it was as of the point in time the image was taken.

If you had data, etc on the drive, I would probably recommend swapping it for another drive (to preserve what you have - just in case), but since it doesn't see like this is the case now, you're either going to restore and it's going to work (which it should), or worst case, you're going to intall Windows from scratch and restore data from your backup (pictures, my docs, etc.)

I decided to format the hard drive but really am lost as to how to do it on a Win 7 computer.  Totally different from ealier versios of Windows.  I prefer to format the drive before I restore my full system backup.  I would like to create a bootable USB flash drive that will permit me to format the drive.  I am using a backup computer to submit this request with Win 7 Pro as the operating system.  Thanks for the help.  Ed McDowell

Also, do you recomend that I wipe the drive before restoring?

Many thanks.............Ed McDowell

In windows - easy format by going to Windows explorer, click on the drive letter and select "format".  Not possible to format the OS drive while it's in use though.  IF this is the drive with your main OS, you would need to mount it as a secondary disk in another Windows machine to do this within Windows.

Alternatively, you can format a drive from the Acronis bootable recovery media and selecting "tools >>> add new disk"

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/#3572.html

Or, you can use a third party tool like minitool partition wizard (.iso can be downloaded here, you can burn the .iso to disk or create a bootable usb flash drive from it using RUFUS or ISOtoUSB.  I've also found that you can download and install the application in Windows and then copy the folder from C:\Program Files (x86), that it creates and use it as a "portable" tool on other Windows computers or WinPE media if you put it on a thumb drive.

It's not necessary to format before restoring, but doesn't hurt.

I greatly appreciate the 2 comments thus far but I have discovered that Acronis in not loaded on the bad computer.  The files seem to be there but I cannot seem to get the softwae to load thus I am dead in the water when trying to install the full system backup.  I have Acronis ATI 2016 on my other 2 computers.  I copied over the shortcut from this computer but the dialog says the path is incorrect.  Any help in installing would be appreciated.

Ed, if you sign-in to your Acronis Account you can download a copy of the Rescue CD ISO image and burn this to CD to boot your computer from, which should allow you to restore the backup offline from Windows.

Just in case you need guidance on how to recover, here is a video with step-by-step process: https://youtu.be/qbe8yTOaVGg?t=1m48s
