200ish GB restore taking nearly 5 days

Thread needs solution

I have an external drive (was in my laptop) that is failing. I tried for days to move the stuff over, but was very unsccessful. It took a few hours to backup the drive, I ignored the bad sectors.... I did chkdsk /r but it said it had no room for repair.

I've been restoring since last night  almost 20 hours and the time is constnatly increasing its up to almost 5 days now... It's about 200GB of Data... is it normal for it to take this long???

I am going from one external to another. Using USB 3.0 on both, they are USB 3.0 drives.

I did not do a clone. I just needed to backup certain files.

I attached an image.

Tahnk you very much for your help, and time reading this post.

HI Joanna, unfortunately, I think you have a bad source disk (even though it backed up in Acronis, I fear the backed up data is corrupted) and that is why it's taking so long.  I backup a 250GB SSD to another SSD which results in about 80GB for a full and the process takes about 8 minutes.  The restore also takes about 8 minutes.  Spinning drives, and larger drives will naturally take longer, but a day for 20GB is not a good sign.

If I were you, in this case, I would consider trying a physical hard drive duplicator.  This may give you a better chance of recovery as it is a physical connection without relying on a PC, OS, or third party application.  I have had some success with copying/cloning drives this way, when other options failed and a duplicator is roughly $40, and also doubles as a nice external dual drive hard drive bay with USB connectivity too.  IF one of these can't duplicate your data to another drive, you'll pretty much have verified that the original disk is toast.  If it can copy, then, we'll hopefully the data on the new drive will still be usable.

There are many different duplicators available, but you want to look for one that is USB 3.0 and has offline cloning capability such as these:
