Can You Still Make A Disk Image With Acronis True Image?
Hello,
It has been a couple of years since I used ATI. All I care about is making (and restoring) full disk images.
Can the software still do this without being installed in the destination system?
E.g. boot from CD, create/restore disk image to USB key.
How does the 1/3/5 family licence stuff impact this? Will I be able to take an image of both computers at home?

Taking your questions one at a time.
Yes, Acronis True Image can be used without being installed provided you have a valid license serial to allow you to download the bootable media from your Acronis Account though this will have some serious limitations if used in this way.
The bootable rescue / recovery media is based on Linux and may not recognise some more modern hardware that both the installed version and the Windows PE based Rescue Media would handle fine.
You would not have access to some major functionality such as scheduling, NonStop Backup, Sync or Cloud storage if only using the bootable rescue media. You also cannot create the WinPE rescue media when booted from CD.
You would need to convert the CD ISO image to use this on a bootable USB memory stick whereas the installed version can create a bootable USB version of rescue media directly.
For licensing - if you intend to use ATIH on multiple computers then you should have one license for each computer where the software will be installed. From a rescue media perspective, this can be used on more than one computer subject to the limitations mentioned above.

LAW IT - no idea, probably want to reach out to Acronis technical support to see if they can answer that for you. Not really related to the OP's original post so you should start a new thread for this issue if you need additioanl forum user support for this.

Which licence lets me do this? Is this the $49.99, 1 computer licence?

How do I convert the CD ISO image to a bootable USB? Installation is not an option (Why would I want to slow down my computer with unnecessary applications?)

Can I make as many images as I want (e.g. every couple of months), and restore them as many times as I want to potentially different hardware? Coming from a consumer mindset, I just want to buy a device that makes disc images that I can use, and trust to continue to function for as long as I need it. This per computer licencing makes me very concerned that I will not be able to backup/restore my computer in the future, if the software decides it isnt the same computer. Or more simply, I dont understand it, so I dont trust it.

Nope Nope
Yes, that license is the one. Once you purchase you can log in to your account and download the default bootable media (linux). As long as it has all of the drivers for yoru system, should be fine (newer NVME PCIE hard drives don't work yet with this version, but an update is expected this month).
You'll need a third party tool like ISOtoUSB or RUFUS to convert a bootable iso to a bootable USB if you are not going to install the Acronis application (which will let you create a USB if you do).
Yes, there is no limit of the # of backups you can make withe the offline media or # of recoveries. However, to be in line wiht the license scheme, you should have 1 license for each system you image and/or deploy images to. You will need Universal Restore to move an image to a new system. it is also part of the license though and a Linux version of that media is available from your account download section. keep in mind that OEM Windows licenses are non-transferable to new hardware - if you don't have a boxed version of Windows, you may not have a licensed version after you deploy an image from one system to another.

Nope Nope, I cannot advise you on the cost of software licenses - that will differ according to where you live (country) and if any special offers are available etc. The important part is that you have a license otherwise you will be using a trial version of the product which will only work for 30 days and is severely limited for the bootable rescue media operations, i.e. limited to restoring only, not allowing you to make images.
There are various tools that will allow ISO images be converted to USB bootable memory sticks, see the following links:
The bootable rescue media will let you create as many images as you wish without any license issues providing it is the full version of the product being used and not a trial version.
