When cloning my boot disk, how do I carry over the registration?

Thread needs solution

I want to put in a larger boot drive.  After I clone the disk, will the Acronis registration carry over or do I need to do something?

Thanks,

Ken K

Hello Ken,

My TIH 2016 was fine (worked perfectly) after creating a new, bootable, system disk.

I DID NOT, however, use the clone feature to create my new disk.  I never use the clone option.

I used the disk partition method to create a copy of my C drive, shut down, removed my original c drive, inserted the new drive (which was larger and faster), booted with the recovery meda, restored the image of my c drive to the new drive, removed the recovery disc and rebooted.

My system started without any hiccups and I have a backup drive to put on the shelf or use for other purposes.

I'm sure folks with lots more experience than I will chime in concerning the cloning method.

Looking forward to hearing your results.

Steve

Kennith, ditto to Perdido - I've never used clone and always backup and restore a full disk and have had no issues.  However, cloning should leave everything as it is on the old disk.  The only time licensing is an issue is if you actually change hardware - in which case, Windows OS and other software that is tied to the orignial motherboard may require reactivation.  As far as Acronis is concerned - moving to a new disk in the same hardware is not a problem.  If there is a licensing problem (which there shouldn't be), you will be prompted to deactivate from an existing computer, so you'd log into your account and move the "old" instance to the new one and that would be it.
