6559 nagging for credentials

Thread needs solution

my system took the update to 6559 today. ever since every click on ok, accept, backup, recover, rename, ad nausea brings up the credentials dialogue with my username present.

it used to only appear when a new backup scheme eas created, now it seems almost every click. is there a setting I cannot see to stop this?

p.s., even after numerous requests the CAPTCHA is still required on this site. some users tell me they do not see it. Acronis says it should not be happening on my account.

thanks

Hello Vega, are you actually entering your password at the credentials prompt or just closing it / ignoring it?

If this is the Login prompt that normally opens when you first launch the application, then the simplest way to get rid of it is to sign in with your Acronis Account credentials (email address and password) and it shouldn't prompt for it again.

As to the CAPTCHA - it is there mainly to help stop some of the spammers from posting in bulk, though even this doesn't seem to stop some of the more determined ones that appear from time to time.  As far as I am aware all users are shown the CAPTCHA challenge apart from the Acronis employees and the MVPs.  Perhaps a PM to Gaidar may help you to get it removed for your account?

thanks Steve,

I'm signed into my Acronis account. the nagging is from the Acronis dialogue asking for the windows username and password. I still have Acronis set to run as administrator, could that be causing the nags?

I will fire an email off to Gaidar about the CAPTCHA

Hello Vega, thanks for the further information.

Are you running with a non-administrator account on your desktop and then have ATIH 2016 set to 'Run as Administrator' in the program properties?  If so, then I would suspect that this would trigger the prompt for credentials.

Have you tried without the 'Run as Administrator', assuming that your account has the necessary authority to launch the program, and you have granted the 'Local system account' the necessary authority to the source and target files that will be touched by the backup task?  The Local system account is used by the Acronis Services which provide for the ATIH GUI and running of tasks (Managed Mini Machine and Scheduler2 Services).

Vega,

You don't mention which OS you are using, but if Windows 7, and Steve's suggestions don't solve the problem, you could check out Windows Credential Manager and see if there is an entry in there which could be deleted. With W7 WCM would sometimes cause this problem.

You might also try a repair install of 6559, it might not have overwritten some files or registry entries correctly the first time around.

I'm running Windows 10, in a local account set as administrator. Windows was a clean install from 3 days ago, and Acronis was installed right after. all was well until the Acronis upgrade today. I used to be asked once for credentials when creating a new task, now it is every screen or action. only Acronis is doing this, no other programs.

Acronis set itself up in the administrator mode, the icon on the dektop, and the start menu both have the admin shield on them. it was the same before the upgrade. if I look at the launcher properties, it shows as not being run as admimniistrator, the box is unchecked for both the user and all users.

Mini manager and scheduler2 are logging on as local user from the services.

There is nothing in credential manager related to Acronis.

I have sync agent, and non stop backup disabled in services, as I always have.

I've attached screen shots of the desktop and explorer icons, the properties pages, and the credentials page.

thanks again

Hello Vega, thanks for the screen shots, all looks fine to me with those as far as I can tell.

Given that this issue only started after the 6559 upgrade and wasn't a problem with the previous 6027 version, I would tend to agree with Colin that something didn't get updated correctly with the upgrade.

To resolve this I would suggest doing a clean install of 6559 rather than a repair, just to make sure that all programs, files, registry entries etc are cleaned up before putting the software back on.

You can save your backup tasks by saving a copy of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder and if needed, also the Database folder at the same location, which holds your backup history information.

Uninstall the current software, run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), restart the computer then do a clean install of the 6559 installer - download from your Acronis Account if needed.

Hello Vega,

There was a change made in build 6559 to check validity of credentials for NAS more often and if the check fails (for example, you have changed your NAS account password), you could enter the new password.

Also note that when you want to delete a backup, you should do that in backup context menu in Acronis True Image interface. If you delete or move .tib files or parent folders while they are displayed in backups list in Acronis, this will invalidate old stored paths, the program will be trying to that old paths and issues like you have described may arise.

I finally got time to uninstall, cleanup, and reinstall Acronis. the nagging with a vengeance is still present and annoying. Iwent back to the previous version and the nagging is gone, so something in the update has triggered the nag on my system. until a solution is found I will stay with the older version.

I also noticed deleting individual backups in 2016 has to be done when running Acronis from the bootable media, otherwise the entire backup chain can only be removed.

thanks

have a great weekend

ps thanks for removing the captcha from my account

Hello Vega,

If you will need to delete individual backup, but will not have a possibility to reboot (e.g. some important task or program may be running that cannot be interrupted by reboot), you can do it that way: select Delete from backup menu in Acronis graphical interface, select "Settings only" (this will keep .tib files intact, but will just remove them from Acronis database), delete .tib file(s) that you needed to delete, and then re-add the backup back to Acronis list of backups through "Add existing backup" feature (next to plus sign in the left bottom part of the window). The tradeoff is that you would need to re-select backup source and set the rest of the backup settings anew.
