Acronis 2016 validation issue
Using the most update version of 2016 I ran backup and validation without an issue, I then wanted to try the stand alone validation option. I attemped to validate the same backup that was done 10 minutes ago and it failed this time? The backup was done via USB to a 1TB WD passport drive. I have had the same results using my WD 3TB Mycloud drive (network drive) and an internal 500GB WD drive? Before running the back I had:
1. Ran a virus scan.
2. Malware scan.
3. Disk clean up.
4. Formated disk used for backup.
I have found the validation to be very moody you can get a pass and the run it again and get a fail.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok Bobbo thanks very much but it sure is frustrating doing a backup and then seeing the validation pass then fail. I have a backup on my Passport usb drive and on the WD Mycloud drive. It's hit and miss with validation, I can see the frustration mounting when doing monthly incremental backup's and they start now and then failing validation. It then will become hit and miss on which one to use if I need it.

I validate only so that each full backup has run once through validation. I also keep my incremental chains short (no more than a handful). Validations fails in 2 cases: either ATI has not found the right files, or some of the checksums of the data it calculates don't match the ones embedded in the archive files. In both cases, the data is deemed different from what it was at the time of the backup. It doesn't mean it can be recovered, but it is hard to see exactly what is going on.
I do, however, click on "recovery files' verytime before I start a new backup. THis way I can verify that the database still can track the files right. THen I cancel the operation when I can see that ATI found all the archives it needed to display the contents of the backup. It is similar to double clicking on the archive file in Windows explorer.
But yes, the only way to be 100% confident is to peform an actual restore.
