Acronis 2013 cancels and says "looking for solution", yet when I restart it, it's still running?  This just started and has happen 2 out of the last 3 weeks.  After I restart it and find it is still running, I let it go to completation.

I back up to an external Toshiba drive, same one I have used for years.   About 4 months ago I changed one thing, after backup I dismount external drive, that way if ramsonware gets on PC, it won't affect restore.

I do notice when I plug in external drive, it does a lot of working (you can hear) for 5 - 10 minutes, maybe I should wait for that to calm down???  Also, when I do nothing on P.C. and sit and watch Acronis, it does a long time calculating time to run.  I always dismount/eject external drive after Acronis finishes and I notice there is no Acronis log for the Acronis task that has a message that it was canceled and looking for solution.

Backup file is around 77GB, external is 1 TB with 565GB used.  On Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate, Acronis 2013 is latest build 6514.

I find this strange that it just started and somewhat concern backup may not be good, yet it does verify and log looks good. 

Any advice or words of wisdom?  I really don't want to update and plan on staying on 7 as it is supported until 2020.  This computer has run 24 X 7 since 10/31/2006, it's has got to die some day.  It is a Dell Optiplex 745.

The main thing here is that your backups are succeeding and can be validated without error on your external drive, though it does seem strange if you are getting messages from Acronis that it cancels the backup task and is 'looking for solution' - are you certain that this is actually coming from Acronis and not a Windows error message?

Have you tried checking the Windows Event Logs to see if there are any clues held there for the date/time when you see this message?

The other thought with the disk drive activity when you plug in the external drive is if you have any Windows indexing running against the drive, or possibly any Defrag program that picks up the drive and wants to analyse it?

With the Acronis 'calculating time to run' aspect, you haven't told us what type of backup is involved here, i.e a disks & partitions or files & folders type of backup, doing incremental or differential backups?  If you are doing an incremental or differential backup, then Acronis will need time to determine what changes have occurred since the last backup - last version chain in the case of incremental, or last full backup for differential backups.  Again, if you do any significant changes in the interim period, or if you use a disk defragmentation utility, this can cause a large number of changes to be indentified and cause the backup image to be much larger than normal.

It is a Windows error with a popup box which says looking for solution, I cancel as it goes forever with the spinning and looking for solution being displayed.  Even then you will see disk activity on external and it appears in task manager it's running, but nothing on task bar.  Double click on icona nd when TA starts, you get screen showing progress.  I am running a full image backup.  No I am not running any defrag and have checked to see if one was needed in the past, it wasn't needed.  I did loog at log and seen one application error and it won't let me cut or copy general tab.

But I did get the detail tab if I do select all and still can't get to paste correctly, looks like the bad guy is ntdll.dll??.

Hello Jer, if this is a Windows error report then I would suggest doing a repair install of ATIH 2013 to see if that resolves the issue as perhaps one of its DLL's has been overwritten by a different version or something like that.

To do a repair install, you can start to uninstall the software and you should be offered the option to either Uninstall or Repair, take the latter.

Will give that a try and update results as soon as I do next backup.  I did notice out of all the ntdll.dll the, C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll was modified on 12/30/2015.  There are many ntdll.dll in different directories.  Thanks for the advice, will try and then run a backup, sometimes all runs fine and sometimes not, so make take awhile to know.

Tried to uninstall via programs/features and get message "No True Image Components Installed".   When I tried to uninstall the TI Plus Pack, it would have went if I let it, which I didn't.

I still have downloads from install of build 6514, so started that and selected repair.  All seems to have run and it said successful install.  Just for the heck of it I went to control panel, programs and features and tried to unstall TI 2013, still got message "No True Image Components Installed" .  That seems strange, never got that on any uninstalls before, I guess TI just didn't build in an unstall and maybe have  to pull down one of their Acronis cleanups?

Hello Jer, I guess the key question here is whether you are still getting the Windows error for TrueImage.exe or not after doing a new install of the software?

If you are, and given the strange message that no components are installed, then I would recommend running the Cleanup Tool  - this will look for and remove all Acronis product files and registry entries etc, including the TI Plus Pack and any other Acronis products you may have installed, i.e. Disk Director..

Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I stronly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.

Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer).  Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).

Note 1: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history.  If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).

Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.

Note 2: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.
 

I ran the cleanup utility and reloaded, didn't try to save any of the old jobs/scripts.   Built a new backup and directory and ran one image, will see if it continues to work.  It didn't always get the error mention in first post.  At least now if I do try to uninstall TI 2013, I get a setup screen asking if I want to delete secure zone and non-stop backup, that is better than "No True Image Components Installed".
