Acronis reboots computer during cloning process

Thread needs solution

Just loaded Acronis 2015, have used Acronis since 2009, have not had similar issues

How do I resolve issue

Dennis, the best advice is to not try to perform cloning from within Windows, but to boot directly from the Acronis bootable recovery media.

See KB document: 56634: Acronis True Image 2016: Cloning Disks which although for 2016 will apply the same to 2015.

Thanks Steve for your inputs.  Created recovery media per your sugestion and Acronis instructions, attempted to clone from recovery media and was kicked out of the program in same way that I was kicked out within windows.  Was runing Acronis 2014 for a year without incident ... start having issue when I loaded Acronis 2015 program last couple days

Was cloning from a SSD to SSD in both cases running Windows 7 32 bit ... any other suggestions?

Dennis, when you say that you were 'kicked out of the program' using either the boot media or in Windows, please can you expand on this with some more details?

Does the Acronis recovery media boot fully into the application GUI?

If so, does it see both your Source and Target SSD drives?

Do you have the Target SSD installed in the normal boot position with the Source removed and attached by USB or in a second drive position?

How far into the Clone process do you get?

What type of SSD drives are involved in the Clone process here, i.e. Samsung 250GB etc?

Are the two drives of the same storage capacity?

The alternative approach instead of using Cloning, is to do an entire disk backup image of your source SSD drive, store this on a separate disk (internal or external), then restore this directly onto the target SSD drive.  You can do this using the recovery boot media or from within Windows if you are able to connect all the necessary drives (source, target and backup image drive).  The only warning if doing this in Windows is to double check that you are restoring the backup image to the correct target drive.  The final stage is to install and boot from the restored target drive.

THE DRIVES ARE HARD WIRED INTO THE COMPUTER AND CAN BE SWAPED OUT USING MOBILE (REMOVABLE) SATA RACKS

How far into the Clone process do you get? EVERYTHING FLOWS PERFECTLY THOUGH "PREPARING TO CLONE" FUNCTION ... THE COMPUTER REBOOTS AT THE START OF THE COPY (LAST) FUNCTION

hAVE NEVER USED THIS METHOD ... THE BEAUTY OF ACRONIS CLONE IS "FAST TROUBLE FREE BACKUPS".  THIS IS 2016 ... SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE KIND OF ISSUES WITH "ANY" SOFTWARE.  HAVE BEEN USING ACRONIS SINCE 2009 WITHOUT ISSUES!

Dennis, if you are booted from the Acronis bootable recovery media then there should be no need to reboot during the clone process, that is only normally needed when starting the clone from within Windows.

The reason for the suggestion of the alternative method is to prove that there is no issue here with the source or target drive involved in the clone operation.

I understand the 'beauty of Acronis clone' but in this case it does not appear to be working for you, and whilst I also agree that this is 2016 and we should not have these kinds of issues, please remember that this is just a user forum and not a direct path to Acronis technical support.  I too am just another user of this product and do not work for or get paid by Acronis for helping in a voluntary role in the forums.

See post 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information if you would prefer to engage more directly with Acronis Support.

Thanks Steve for your tips ... found root cause of issue!

C: SSD drive was corrupt ... ran CHKDSK on C: drive and after restart Acronis ran perfectly

Just by chance issue surfaced just after installing Acronis True Image 2015

Took 3 days to run issue into ground ... but all is working now

Thank you for your inputs ... run CHKDSK before you go down that rabbit hole!

Dennis, glad to hear that you have got to the bottom of this issue and it is all resolved now.  Thanks for providing feedback as that can help others who may tread a similar path in future.
