Cleanup taking forever
Acronis backup sits on 76% for hours doing a cleanup on a simple incremental backup. This happens at all my sites. I set the retenion to delete backups after 5 days. The backup takes maybe 15 minutes, the cleanup takes 4-6 hours.
I know this has been an issue ever since 11.5 came out, but is this ever getting resolved? Versions before 11.5 always took less than one hour.

Bump,
Anyone? I know this is an ongoing issue, just wanted to know if there was a workaround or a fix in sight. Space is limited, so I cannot fit more than 5 incrementals. I assume if a local disk takes 5+ hours to cleanup, the clould would be 5+ days. I don't want to move from Acronis, but the backups are killing the NAS bandwidth when 10+ users are all waiting on cleanup. Since one has to finish before the next one starts, The cleanups never finish before the next backup is scheduled. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM!!!!
Maybe I will get lucky and Acronis will have a tech at the WHD conference I can speak to this week about this issue.

I have the same problem, I think. I'm replicating to tape but it takes forever and the NIC on the backup server is totally saturated so it can't just be the data from NAS to tape, it must be something else going on. Can't remember having seen this in 11.5 however.

Hello TucsonPC,
What sort of backup scheme are you using? What are the retention rules set to (consolidate or delete)?

For me it is a simple backup once a day with a delete retention rule after 5 days.

Hello TucsonPC,
If I understand correctly you are using a scheme Simple and backup type Incremental. When the Incremental backup type is selected along with Simple scheme, the archive will be cleaned up using consolidation, which is a more time-consuming and resource-intensive operation. In order to delete backups using the standard clean up process, you will need to use Custom backup scheme and set how often Full backups should be created. After a new full backup was added to the chain, a previous Full with all dependant Incrementals can be removed without consolidation.
Thank you,

Hi,
So let me see if I understand this properly.
I want to have backups for 7 days.
I do a custom backup with a full backup on Friday night, then an incremental for the next 6 days. Then do a cleanup deleting every backup older than 7 days (movement) after the backup. This should delete the previous week backup on the last day of the incremental. I assume only the last full backup taken will do the incrementals.
Is this correct?
Dan

Hi Dan,
With one weekly full backup and 6 incrementals this backup chain will be stored for at least two weeks, because of the following limitation:
incremental backups depend on each other and therefore can only be deleted together, so we should wait till the last incremental backup in the chain becomes subject to deletion. If you want to delete all incremental backups after a new full was created, you can use the scheme Number of backups in the archive exceeds 6.
