ATIH2014 Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

This cannot be as difficult as I'm finding it?!

I have the ATIH2014 premium which includes UR and I'm trying to figure out how to install it so it's available at time of restore. Nothing I have been able to do so far gives me the option to apply UR at the time of a recovery. What am I doing wrong?

The UR iso is not bootable or nothing I do to burn the iso to DVD results in a bootable device.  I tried building a bootable dvd/flash drive using rescue media both of which work but neither of which provide an option (greyed or otherwise) to apply UR to a recovery.  The UR documentation makes reference to an 'msi' file that I would use to install UR to my laptop but have yet been able to find this .msi file!

Also, neither bootable usb utilities Rufus nor Win7 USB-DVD will recognize Acronis ISO's as bootable images! I use Rufus all the time for creating boot USBs :-\

Anyone? Please help :-)

Note: I am just trying this out and do not actually have to recover anything so no real crisis. yet :-)

Thx

Did you install UR from the downloads section in your account?  It's included with premium, but a seperate installation.  Once installed, when you create bootable media, it will then be included in the media build and an available option.

You can also then use the univeral restore media builder as well - the result will be the same either way. I actually like using the universal restore media builder more though as you can select specific items to include where as the default media builder in Acronis just picks everything and puts it in.

The documentation was updated some time ago with inaccurate information.  Acronis didn't include the Universal Media Builder with 2014 Premium.  Instead they provided a Universal Restore ISO file that must be burned to a CD/DVD.  This version of Universal Restore does not recognize Windows 10 and has not been updated since it was posted.

Hello Everyone!

Please be aware that we have released Update 3 for Acronis True Image 2014 on EN-US. The Build number is 6688. This build is available only on US locale.

What's new?
The only change in this build compared to previous one is that Acronis Universal Restore is not included in main product build. Instead, Acronis Universal Restore is provided as a separate ISO image. This change was done to ensure that our users always get the latest version of Universal Restore tool that supports new hardware.

We have changed the way Acronis Universal Restore is used: User needs to download Acronis Universal Restore ISO image and burn it to a CD/DVD, then apply Universal Restore after recovery to restore system bootability. See the following KB article for instructions: https://kb.acronis.com/node/47792

There are no other changes, no bugfixes, no new features.

This build will not be detected by "Check for updates" feature in the product.

(!) Since this build contains no new changes, you can consider build 6673 as the last one. No need to ask users to update to 6688 if they have any issues with 6673.

Universal Restore
Acronis Universal Restore will be available for download under MyAccount for owners of Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Edition as an ISO image. Separate download should be available today later. I will let you know when this change goes live.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Thank you for responding. I also see another response following which explains the source of my frustration.

Thank you for assisting and all comments on this help request have been very helpful, if not resolving. fyi.  I have restored my Windows 10 machine several times using ATIH2014.  Also, the 6688 build of UR (ISO) does not appear to either be bootable or contain an executable installer. Perhaps this is simply a patch which is strange if delivered in an ISO format. (?)

The ISO is a disc image of the Universal Restore bootable media.  It must be burned to a CD/DVD.  I downloaded the ISO and used Windows 10 to create a bootable CD by right clicking the ISO and selecting Burn disc image in the context menu.  The CD booted on the systems I tested it on.

Thanks again. I had just assumed that since ATIH2014 installed without error on my Windows 10 machine that all was fine.  As it turns out (with thx to you) it obviously is not alright at all. I burned the UR iso on my Win 8.1 Machine and that disk is bootable on both machines.  Time to upgrade I guess :-(

Thank you again!
