Viddy,

Acronis have just released a new cleanup utility:

https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668

So, I recommend you perform a clean install of ATI 2016, using the procedures in the link above.  It is critical to download and run the cleanup utility.

Regards,

FtrPilot

I uninstalled Acronis 2016 as above, made back ups etc., and now find that I cannot now download the Clean up utility, or connect to the Support Forum on that machine. Next step please.  Alister

Reestablished  contact, the uninstall removed the wireless link. Downloaded the cleanup Utility and now need Chat or Phone support to negotiate the  the clean up procedure. Don't have much experience with Control Panel commands. System is windows 10 upgraded from 8.1. Thanks.

As there is no Chat or Phone support available, please anawer these questions re the 2016 Clean Up Utility. I don't expect to be making

Command line adjustments on a product such as Acronis 2016 without access to Support. I would appreciate answers to these questions'

especially where to type the Command entries.

Item 4,  When asked to terminate Windows Explorer type in y and hit Enter. Where - Mark.

Thank you.

In the link I provided above, there are detailed instructions on how to run the cleanup utility.  There is also a link to download the cleanup utility.  When you download it, it should go to your Downloads folder.  Use Windows Explorer to navigate to your Downloads folder.  Right click on the file

"CleanupTool_48_en-US.exe" then select Run as administrator.  A small window will popup that looks like picture 1.  Click your mouse anywhere in the small window and hit 2 then hit enter.  It will then ask you to confirm you want to uninstall Acronis... answer y then hit enter (picture 2)

A couple of seconds later, it will ask if you want to terminate Windows Explorer... answer y then hit enter (picture 3)

The program will delete files, folders, services, and registry entries, then ask if you want to remove large disks... answer y then hit enter.

Shortly after that it will ask if you want to reboot.  The directions in the web site say no...they want you to open regedit and check upper filters.  Personally, I skip the filter check and and answer y when the cleanup utility asks to reboot.

It is straightforward, you should have no problems.

FtrPilot

Thank you. Do I click y in the command prompt box brackets or y on the keyboard? (best to ask)

Thank you, very much appreciated.   Regards,  Alister.

I receive a message that says "update available." When I click on that it says build 6569 and downloads and starts to install but then I receive a message that says "update failed."  When I click on "view details" I get a Web page that says "error details: Access is denied."  What is the problem here?

It makes no sense to me that i should have to go through a complex, time consuming uninstall and reinstall procedure to simply update Acronis 2016. Really?

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Don M.

Don,

You will need to perform a "clean" install of ATI 2016...You should log into your Acronis Account and download the ATI Build 6569 install file.

To perform a clean install of ATIH 2016, first uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).

Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool, (link below) then restart the computer.

https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668

Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I strongly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.

Reinstall the ATIH software.  Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).

Note 1: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history.  If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).

Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.

Note 2: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.

Thank you FtrPilot.   Updated programs are now installed on both computers. I followed your suggestion to skip the filter check, which makes it simpler and easier and avoids having to get close to any registry entries.

With the information you posted I was able to proceed with confidence, and the experience of working with command prompts could well prove valuable in the future. Thank you, very much appreciiated. Alister.

Alister...I love a happy ending. Congrats.

We pilots tend to be process oriented and rely on checklists and step by step instructions.  I try to provide guidance that is step by step and easy to follow...and to provide encouragement.  I knew you could do it.

Also, thanks for closing the loop.  When things work, it is great to get the feedback that it did work, so we can provide guidance the the next user with a similar problem that we know has worked in the past.
