Failed to open item

Thread needs solution

Hello All,

Thanks so much for this forum.  I've recently run an entire PC back-up and then tried to restore it using the recover PC function.  Acronis will not recover the saved image but, instead, gives me the error message, "Failed to open item H:\Acronis Backups\entire PC\******.tib" where ****** is the specific name of the image I just made of the PC.  The interesting thing is the image is set to be saved on a peripheral drive at the drive location G:\Acronis Backups\.  For some reason Acronis saves the image to the G:\ drive but looks for it in the H:\ drive.  When I try to recover the image to my computer there seems to be no option to browse for the correct image to restore.  I've searched the forum and can find nothing to explain why this is happening and what to do to rectify the situation.  I've validated the image and removed it and re-saved it several times with no joy.  As it stands I have a validated backup that I don't seem t be able to do anything with.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rick, how are you trying to perform the restore of your backup image?

If you are doing this from within Windows, then the location of the image must match the information that is stored in the Acronis program database, and it sounds like perhaps the task has been altered at some point if the program thinks the image is on drive G: but it is actually stored on drive H:

If you try this from the Acronis bootable rescue media (boot from DVD, CD or USB stick), then the Acronis Database is no longer involved and you can just point the restore to the correct drive holding the image to be restored.

For the first situation above, delete the backup task settings in the Acronis Windows program but do not delete the backup image, then add the backup back into Acronis so that it picks up the correct storage location.
