Cannot install Acronis True Image Home 2010 in Windows 7x64

Thread needs solution

When I try to install the full version I get the error message could not be installed, because the installation has been interrupted before it could be installed and tells me to restart the installer for another try

I have the same problem, although in my case 2010 was running okay then I started to get some scheduler problems, the advise from the forum was to un-install and re-install, that was my biggest mistake! the un-installer does not work and I had to resort to a manual un-install then go through the registry for an hour removing all traces of TIH why! becuse I cannot re-install the program.

Searching the forum for cleaners such as msizap etc etc are no longer available from MS and the true image clean up does nothing.... boy am I pissed I have wasted a whole day and at the end of it have no back up program except the one that came with my Windows 7 X64, I've had TI since version 8 and it looks like this is the end of the road for me.

So I have no registry entries with acronis or trueimage I have no folders or config file pertaining to Acronis or Trueimage, nothing shows in device manager, so why can't I load the program? AV is off firewall is down, I am at the end of the rope with this, I get the same messag as the poster and we are not the only ones, doing a search here and elsewhere shows many users with the same problem.

Hello Steve and David!

Welcome to our Forum, and thank you for finding time to share your experience and concerns with s! I entirely understand how inconvenient this situation is and will be glad to assist you!

Unfortunately due to the lack of diagnostic information it is hard to identify the cause of the problem, so this situation requires investigation.

Could you please kindly provide us with the following information?

  1. MSI log
  2. Windows System Information

You can either attach it to your comment in the thread or send to any Forum Moderator via PM. This information will help us to localize the issue and find an appropriate solution.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Well here's mine but I've already replaced TIH with a product from NTI as I can't be without backup and TIH will just NOT install and I won't spend anymore time trying to figure out why.

Hello David,

Thank you very much for replying.

I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience that you experienced when trying to install our software.

If you would like to try one last time, you can resolve this by going to the registry (click start->run->type: regedit) and searching for the following registry keys: 3DD4B149 and 3A83DE76

Please delete them and I am confident the software will install without any problems.

After studying the logs, it appears the program fails to get installed because of previous components, somehow they fail to update properly when you are trying to install it.

If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.

Thank you.

Well that was a task but after I removed all the keys as detailed, I was delighted to see the install started then I got an error message and the program un-installed!

Further here is the log dump up until request for serial number

.

David there is one more item to check, which is the W7 temp folder.

Clear all or as much of the contents out of there and TI might then install.

The installer throws a wobbly if it finds remnants of either it or other log/installer files.

The path is c:\users\your_user_name\local settings\temp

For XP users it is:

C:\my documents and folders\user_name\local settings\temp

Hidden files and folders must be set to visible as must system files.

Colin B, thanks I appreciate your assistance however it is important to provide a user information that is accurate, a novice user can cause damage trying a suggestion that is wrong.

In Windows 7 the Local Settings Folder is a junction point : a hidden, protected operating system file not meant to be accessed by users.

It points to this user-accessible folder: C:\Users\\AppData\Local.

In any event my system environment points to a single Temp folder located elsewhere and there are no files or folders in there that relate to Acronis.

The error clearly relates to a policy issue in winxs folder or the registry, I'll await to see what the moderator feels is the problem.

Again thanks for trying.

David,

The crux of my post obviously was poorly worded.

It doesn't matter whether the files in the temp folder belong to TI or not, the mere fact there are logs, installer remains and other files can and will stop TI from installing. The normal indication is that TI will start to install, get some way along, then throw up an error message that 'Installation has been interrupted', followed by rolling back the installation and closing down.

If that happens to you, it is still worth trying to clear your temp folder of all items that W7 will allow.

The two standard things that normally stop an install are;

1. Temp folder has items in it.

2. A previous version of TI has left an entry in registry.

To solve #2 you need toattempt to install TI with logging enabled as per Anton's post, you will find the point at which the log states an error has occured and it will quote a CLSID - in registry this CLSID is reversed - find that key, delete it and TI will then install.

Occasionally there are other reasons why it won't install.

Well that's it! too long to get a solution and I need a backup program that works so moved to Ghost 15, normally I would be reluctant to try Symantic remembering their bloated AV programs but Ghost installs and works, an sorry to say here, works better than TIH, TIH was good but Ghost is by far better even though more expensive.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting!

Colin, thank you very much for assistance.

David, I am terribly sorry for the delay, you can always contact our technical support directly if you need immediate support.

I would still like to help you with this, VC80.CRT installation problems, similar to the one from your screen capture, are usually resolved by installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package, for your x64 operating system it can be downloaded from here.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you.

Thanks for your assistance but it is too little too late, but I do thank you for forcing me to find a better alternative for me than TIH.
I can't understand why you now suggest loading another program to make TIH work, all I have done to my system was try to remove TIH and re-install! no other actions were involved with my computer, why then can't I re-install?.

Your instructions for manual removal also showed to me the level that TIH writes to the registry, it took the best part of an hour to remove keys not deleted in the un-install.

TIH is a good program but worthless if it can't be installed, looking at other threads in this forum indicate to me that my problem is not unique, I've had TI since version 8 but maybe it has out grown me, I am happy I have found a better solution even though it costs more it is much better.

Again thank you and goodbye
David

This has been a big problem for lots of users of this great program. In reading the voluminous writings in the forum one guy got it right. Windows 7 and vista have several services that they disable. One of them is the "Windows Modules Installer"

I suggest that the problem is solved simply by changing disabled to automatic, reboot and install ATI.

It goes in very fast and smoothly. It goes in fast as a trial and then inputting the serial number after installation.

You need to make new boot disks too.

I wish I could take credit for this but I read it in an old message on the forum.

Good luck and Best regards,

Werner

Werner, thanks for your interest, my Windows Modules Installer is not nor ever has been disabled.

I am not a computer novice, the bottom line is very simple, a consumer/user should not, after paying good money for a program have to struggle to get it to work.

Understand, I have been running ATI for many years, and this problem only occured after I tried to un-install in order to fix a scheduler problem

In my case I have a high spec windows 7 X64 machine, since having this problem with TIH I have installed and un-installed 3 other back up programs, finally installing one as a 'keeper'.

I have loaded a few utilities (mainly to deal with TIH) and today installed new video drivers, my point is all these installs went without any problems at all, I am confident in the knowledge that there is nothing wrong with my computer.

I can therefore only assume that something is wrong with the TIH install and unistall process that being the case I also can't have confidence that the program will back up my valuable data as required, I choose to simple vote for this program with my money and experience to pass on.

David

Hi David, Werner and others,

I have the same problem with the uninstall of ATI and a new install of actual ATI 2010 Build 7046 (but only with XP Prof x86).

The setup of the new version tells me at the end of the procedure that an older version of ATI couldn't be uninstalled and I have to contact the support. As a gimmick the new installation keeps half installed in the system!

Now after a half day and night I'm still at the same point and I can't install this software!
I'm running the True Image and Disk Director software for years and I'm not new to the IT business but such problems I haven't for years like with this update!

I tried with XP-Uninstall: bad luck (Error 1714, system error 1610).
I tried to reinstall again, the same shit.
I tried the acronis CleanUp-Utility from support forum, it runs through and tells I need from MS MsiZAP.exe (which can't be downloded any more from MS). After this acronis cleanup utility runs through all items and finished I reboot and had instantly a blue screen - only a restart with the restore of the last windows configuration got my windows to life again!
I tired to clean manually the registry and all folders - again bad luck with the reinstall.
I tried all notices from the support forum with MS CleanUp, with MSIExec /X{Reg} etc.
I uninstalled manually the Acronis Backup Archive Explorer driver and cleaned also manually with downloaded schedmgr.exe all acronis schedule scripts which were not uninstalled automatically - nothing!
I also used REVO Uninstaller in full mode - there was no one acronis byte on the drive or in the registry, no drivers, no temp files, no installed services, no schedule scripts, no running modules - and I can't install this f..k software anymore!!!

Boy, I'm really pissed off to crash a XP installation with a paid commercial product only by uninstall the old version and setup the new one!

@ACRONIS: it's really unworthy for such an cogenial software maker like Acronis to bring out such bullshit which can't automaticaly recognized and uninstall all old components which can collide with the new version!
Forthermore I expect from such for long years well-engineered and system sensitive software setup (True Image and Disk Director!) that I' able at the setup time to *deselect* directly such unwanted options like:
1. All Scheduler services 2. all run options in the registry 3. autom. Updater 4. Acronis Backup Archive Explorer driver 5. Multiboot Option 6. Online Backup 7. coded integrated online tracking modules "for customer support" and other unwanted crap which crashes the PC before I can run this paid f..king software for the first time!

I want old fashioned only to make controlled manual backups and sensitive disk operations with this software for what I bought her many years ago and I won't have "big brother agents" on my system which moreover crashes my system on each upgrade because of inadequate setups and hunderts of new not needed futures - I won't read 50 pages of installation guide prose before I'm maybe able to install an upgrade without a blue screen!!! And if you offer on your support site a cleanup tool which should uninstall all of your old incompatible items then test this tool for quality so a customer will not see each time a blue screen after there!

If you are earning money now with enterprise customers and don't have any capacities for professional developing of the HOME series, so please don't release any more new builds which are not really tested, because you can't pay the money that your pissed off customer loose with the uncountable hours of trouble shooting!!!

ME: I was about to buy TIH for Windows 7 64-bit as well. Seems you saved me a lot of grief, mate! Thanks! :)

EDIT: Even the forum's quoting mechanism is borked, LOL. Way to differentiate what David said from what I added! What I said started after "ME".

Try -

1. Manually clear out the Windows Temp folder.

For XP: C:\my documents and settings\YOUR_USER_LOG_ON\Local Settings\Temp

For Vista/W7: C:\my documents and settings\users\YOUR_USER_LOG_ON\Local settigns\Temp

Delete as much out of this folder as Windows will allow. For XP it might be easier to perform this in Safe Mode, but isn't really necessary unless your system has a lot of locked files due to databases etc.

2. Start the Acronis installer. At the splash style installtion menu screen, right click on Install True Image and select Extract. Extract the MSI installer file to a folder of your choice.

3. Close down the Acronis installer.

4. Try installing from the True Image MSI installer file.

If necessary you can set the MSI file to log the installation procedure, which will produce a log file, of what went right and where (if it does) it went wrong.

Here is a batch file that will run the installer and tell it to log.
http://forum.acronis.com/sites/default/files/forum/2010/07/12005/ATIH20…

You will need to change the TXT to BAT - if you want you can also change the name of the log file.

You can also copy the contents and run the file either via the CMD prompt or from the RUN option on your start button.

The installer and the bat file need to be in the same folder, and the path will need to be added if using either the CMD prompt or the RUN option.

Make sure you have Admin authority if using W7 or Vista.
