[Solved] Restoring from a external USB HDD or networked drive
Hi
Does anyone know how to use an Acronis 2009 restore disk to access the *.tib files on an external USB HDD please? Or as an alternative how to access them from a networked external USB HDD drive via another machine? The two options when booting from the emergency restore diskk are "Acronis" and "Windows" Selecting the "Windows" option does not work at all and selecting Acronis loads the program but without access to anything other than internal drives
My customer has not updated to the current Acronis version but does have a full set of backup files. I now need to access them from his emergency boot disk to restore a (apparently accidentally) wiped system disk.

It sounds like the Linux drivers on the TI CD are not correct for the system. TI normally can access USB drives and network shares without problems.
Download the latest ISO version from your Acronis account and create a CD from it. It may have more updated drivers.
Have you tried the quiet acpi=off noapic option detailed in Section II of the Read Before You Post thread?
The trial version of TI 2010 is another option, though you have to install it to create the CD.

Problem solved (at last)
It was caused by a defective lead from the power supply of the external HDD. When Acronis was looking for it it effectively wasn't there, next moment it was. As there was no sound installed, and the drive was not easily visible from the desktop I was not aware that there was a problem like that.
All of that after wiping the main HDD and re-installing Windows as well as TI, and trying, as you suggested MudCrab, quiet acpi=off noapic, all to no avail.
It goes to show that you really do have to look everywhere when there is a problem. Thank you for your help though. The exercise has been useful in as much as I have learnt some new skills so it was a productive exercise and not all was lost.
