Partial restore?
Please can someone help me? I have a pc running Windows 7, with two internal drives: an SSD for programs (drive C) and a 2TB HDD (drive D) for files and photos etc. The HDD failed and I have just replaced it with another 2TB drive. I have the entire pc backed up to an external hard drive and want to restore the files to my new D drive but not to C. I have no idea how to go about this and am confused by some of the jargon on the support forums I have read.
I open Acronis (True Image 2016) and click restore and then I get an error message saying "Cannot find Version 2". I have two versions of the backup, one full and one incremental.. Please can you tell me what to do next? (I can access individual files and folders on the backup OK, and copy them to the new disk, so the backup seems good and the pc recognises the new HDD).
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Steve. I should have mentioned that I validated the backup overnight last night (it took a while!). I have been trying again and still get the error message saying "cannot find version 2. I'm really useless with computers and don't understand what exactly Acronis can't find. Both versions, the full one and the incremental are on the same backup disk.

Graham, can you post a listing of your backup files for us to look at to see if we can see any reason for this error?
Also, have you tried taking any options that are presented with the message, i.e. Ignore or Retry etc?
I would also recommend downloading the Log File Viewer app to look at what other messages may be being written to the log files here.
One final note: all recovery issues can be taken direct to Acronis Support as documented: 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information where the following is written:

Hello again, and thanks for your response. A fellow photographer who also uses Acronis was kind enough to come and sort it all out for me. The prog was asking for the back up version, and the last part of the original backup title is_v1, and the next backup..............._v2. Acronis was asking for their location, so it was just a case of navigating to the appropriate version of the back up. This was complicated by the fact that I have two external HDDs and back up to them alternately and, for some unknown reason, Windows had changed the drive letter for one of them. Once this was sorted Acronis restored everything OK.
I wasn't aware that I was still entitled to help from Acronis: when I tried to access Help I was told that I was out of time. I have to say that 30 days only for free help seems a bit mean, and Acronis doesn't make it obvious that you can get help beyond this.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help on this occasion.
Graham

Graham, glad to hear that you have been able to resolve this issue with help from your friend.
One point from your last post where you said: I have two external HDDs and back up to them alternately - if you want to start using more than one external backup drive, then you should create a separate backup task for each specific drive. Acronis registers the disk drive unique identifier (UUID) in the database when you create the backup task and changing to a second drive which has a different UUID can cause unpredictable problems.
For the issue of external drive letters changing, you should change the backup drive to use a letter from towards the end of the alphabet, i.e. W,X,Y,Z where these are unlikely to be changed due to other USB devices being plugged in to your system i.e. memory sticks etc. Please clone your existing backup task if you want to make this change and use a different drive letter, then delete the old backup task settings after the new task is configured.
