Image restore to PCI-e

Thread needs solution

Hi folks. Long-term contented Acronis user here.

I have successfully used Universal Restore to transfer Windows installations between different hardware setups, including single boot drive to RAID.

What I'd like to do now is replace my SATA3 RAID 0 drive pair with a single PCI-e SSD drive. I'd like to use Universal Restore to move the Windows 10 installation with all its programs and data over to the new drive.

Simple question - can True Image 2016 do this?

As long as True Image sees your RAID array as a single drive yes.  If it cannot that means that driver support for the RAID controller is lacking.  The RAID 0 array is and will be handled as a Dynamic disk so make sure you are familiar with how those are handled in the documentation.

I'm sorry but I don't understand that.

I will be moving away from the RAID, to a single PCI-e drive.  It connects directly to the PCI-e bus.  PCI-e drives work in a very different way to SATA. Will True Image be able to restore the image of a SATA boot drive to a PCI-e drive?

Universal Restore is not the tool used to restore a backup image to a new drive.  Bootable Recovery Media is what you would use to do so.  You can make a backup image of your system disk, all partitions, using the Windows installed application.  I presume you have it installed.  If not then you will need to use the Recovery Media to create the backup image.  Using the Recovery Media to create this backup will not work if the RAID set does not appear in the Recovery Media as a single drive for the reason stated in my first post.

Once you have an image created then YES it can be restored to the PCIe drive.

Thank you for explaining that.

I think what I will do is first convert the RAID to a single drive, and then take the backup.

Thanks again.
