Acronis image backup file names

Thread needs solution

I succesfully used Acronis to create a new bootable c: drive on SSD from a disk image of a larger partition.  I've been doing image backups abot once a week.  I just noticed that the name of the backup file begins with the device name of the source disk, for exampled WDC......tib.  The WDC name made sense for the first image backup since it was of my Western Digital 2 tb drive.  Now, ebven though I'm backing up a SanDisk SSD, the image files continue to be named WDC...  How can I make sure it's backing up my c: and not the remaining WDC hard drive, drive d:?  When I do the backup I chose the SanDisk and partition C:

I would suggest changing the Volume label name in Windows of the drive.  Having said that it would be best to probably create a new backup task for the new drive as well.  Having a new disk even though it contains the same data should really have a new task with backup files in a new folder on your storage device.

You can setup the new task in an identical manner just point to a new folder name.  You can change the volume label on your drive by locating the C: drive in File Explorer, right click and select Properties from the resulting menu.  On the General tab type in new name for the volume in the box provided.

True Image will use this name for your device for future backup file names.

The volume name of the SSD was blnk so I changed it to Boot Disk.

But something is still not correct.  Before I click to start a backup it says the source is the San Disk drive, 410 gb.  When I click start it changes to 1.6 TB which is the WDC drive and still uses the WDC label for the file.

Greg, the best method of resolving this issue is either to create a whole new backup task with the correct name that you want your backups to use, or to use the Clone settings option for your current task, change the name of the cloned task from (1) Old task name  then check all the remaining configuration details show correctly.

Once you new or cloned task is created, remove the settings (only) for the original task by taking the delete option (without deleting the full backup).

Note: Acronis shows the cumulative total size of your backup images, so your 1.6 TB may well be the size of all your current stored images, not the size of your original drive that was changed to a SSD.

I can't find where in the backup task settings I choose the output file name.  You are probably correct about 1.6 TB since I was attempting the 4th image backup.

Never mind I found it.  I right clicked on the task name and changed it.  At least I know I've been backing up the correct drive!  Thanks  for your help.

Greg, you cannot change the backup file name for an existing task, it has to be done for a new or cloned task before it has been run the first time.  From that point forward the name is unchangeable, so if you are still seeing WDC... then this is the name that the task was originally created with.

See my earlier advice in post #3 above for how to deal with this.

Hello Greg,

I agree with Steve. Creating a completely new backup task should help you. It means that you need to click on "Add backup" button with plus-like icon at the bottom of the window, select your SSD as source and desired destination. I suggest to use a completely new empty folder as destination.
