Restore from Clone Disk

Thread needs solution

Build 6613

Hi,
I work with widows 10 32bit

I used the clone Disk option to backup my the operating system, and data from a 240GB solid state hard disk to a 1TB WD my passport external disk.

Three partitions where created  See Partitions1.jpg and Partitions2.jpg

The first partition "looks" empty. see Partitions3.jpg

Two Questions:

1. If I want go back in time and want to restore the comuter using this external Disk.

2. If my computer crashes how do I go about useing this clone to restart and restore the comuter.

Thanks

Dov Kruman

Hello Dov, welcome to these user forums.

When you said that you used the clone disk option from your 240GB SSD to a 1TB WD external HDD - did you actually 'clone' the SSD to the HDD, i.e. did you make an identical copy of the SSD on the external HDD - or - did you make an Acronis backup archive image file (.TIB extension) of the SSD and store this on the HDD?

If you did clone the SSD to the WD HDD then you only have one possible method of recovery, which is to repeat the clone operation in reverse, i.e. to clone the WD HDD to the same or another SSD drive.

The purpose of cloning is to enable a disk drive to be replaced by an identical copy of the same contents on a new drive.

Please see KB document: 56634: Acronis True Image 2016: Cloning Disks which explains the way in which cloning is intended to be used - this is for the 2016 product but applies equally to 2015.

With regard to your 'empty partition' - the System Reserved partition is essential for Windows 7 and above to work correctly and holds hidden system information, including Boot Configuration Data.
