Disappearing .TIB File

Thread needs solution

Using Windows 10 Pro 64bit fully updated. I used my ATI 2016 Build 6027 USB flash drive. Backed up to my Samsung V-NAND SSD 850 EVO hard drive. It has a partition for C and for Imagebackup. At first I could see the TIB file in Windows but then it is gone. The data is there but I can't see it in Windows or booting with ATI flash drive. Yes, I am viewing hidden files/folders and system files/folders. No search of *.tib will find it. This is very strange.

Are you sure you wrote the image to the location you're looking for?  If possible, take a screenshot of the drive location where you are saving the backup .tib file to via the offline recovery media for reference.  Then navigate to that exact same location in Windows and take another screenshot for reference.

Prior to the backup, also right click on the fodler you plan to save the backup to later and select properties.  Note the size of the folder and write it down.  After that backup, do the same thing and see if the size has changed or not.

You say the data is there, but you can't see it with hidden files turned off?  What about if you turn off the "hide protected operating system files" feature as well?

I have never seen Acronis have this issue before.  However, using robocopy (Windows copy tool), I have seen the results of the copy end up being a hidden/system folder so it appears as though no data got copied.  To fix that, I would open an elevated command prompt (right click and "run as administrator" and use the ATTRIB -H -S "path-of-folder" command (don't use quotes and do use the actual folder path) on the location of the hidden/system folder that was mysteriously created.

I decided to just quick format the partition that had the TIB file and begin again. I boot with my ATI flash drive and did a backup of my C drive to the partition called E:\. I could see the TIB file and size. I rebooted the computer booting again using my ATI flash drive. I can see the TIB file. I restarted the computer got into Windows looked in the partition no TB file located at E:\. My partition drive this time does not show the size reflecting any TIB file. The partition size is empty (100GB usable).

There is NO file located at E:\mybackup.tib

I followed this same procedure but this time I used a new external USB drive. I can see the file in Windows! So, why now backing up to a partition of the C:\ drive no longer works?

Ok, I deleted the partition and made a new one from my C drive calling it R. I booted using ATI 2016 flash drive. I made a backup of my C drive. I got back into Windows and the TIB file is not there! However, look at my R: drive. It is using 19.89GB! My file is somehow there but can't see it. I'm viewing hidden and systems files/folders. Take a look at my screen shot.

I can see $RECYCLE.BIN and System Volume Information folders but NO .TIB file!

DTM, let me ask a basic question here please:

When you booted the ATIH 2016 flash drive, how did you shutdown your Windows system?

If you just clicked on Shutdown and have Windows Fast Start enabled, then you have not done a full shutdown that is required before booting from the Acronis Rescue media - you have in effect done a hybrid shutdown aka hibernated the system.

Any changes made while the system is in this hybrid state may lead to unpredictable problems after Windows is restarted from the hybrid state.

If you want to test this then instead of using Shutdown, do a Restart instead and then boot from the USB flash drive with ATIH 2016, then see if the TIB file is still present when you restart the system after doing the backup activity?

Thanks Steve! I'm sure I did a shutdown because I would not plug in my ATI USB flash drive while the computer is on. I normally would do a shutdown. With the computer off I would plug in the ATI flash drive then choose to boot from it. I then made my image to a partition on my primary drive. I will do the test like you said. Also, how about just shutting off Fast Start in Windows 10?

I think I am having the same problem and have posted here. I have two folders "entire pc" and "files backup" and they get deleted. Once they get deleted, then It has a hard time backing up, as its looking for those old .tib files.  I am pretty frustrated with this.

When I was copying to the E drive I had the same set up and it seemed to work. E:/Acronis/ Entire PC and FilesBackup

No shutdown just a restart. I can see the file!

I then shut off in Windows 10 "Turn on fast starup" in Power Options. I shut down the computer. I turned it back on and I can still see the file in Windows! Steve Smith you found the answer! Thank You!

DTM, thanks for the feedback, glad to have been able to help.

Good to hear!  FYI, another way to do a full "shutdown" without needing to "restart" would be to use command prompt and:

shutdown /s /t 5

This can be put in notepad and saved as a .bat instead of .txt.  Then run the .bat file from the desktop instead of hitting the shutdown button and it will shutdown for you as well.  However, this works because the /s command forces a full shutdown, even if fastboot is enabled on a system.  The /t 5 is just a delay of 5 seconds.  The default is 60 seconds, so you can set the delay to whatever you want (/t 0) will be immediate.
