Can't see how to make image to disc.
I want to create a disc image of my Windows 8.1 system but Acronis 2016 seems determined to store it in the "cloud", and, as far as I can se, doesn't offer me the optio of storing on a d.v.d.
What am I missing?

Ditto and agreed that a DVD is not a good destination for backups. They are slow, cumbersome and susceptible to much faster breakdown. As cheap as hard drives are now, get a decent 1-2TB external hard drive for about $60 and use that as your backup destination and you will be much happier with the backup and restore times and reliability of the media.

Thank you Bobbo.
What type of connector on a PC is necessary in order to connect an additional, external, hard drive?

External Hard drives typically use a USB connection which most computers have.

Thank you thomasjk.
My external drie has a USB connection. Some of the thing I have reently read led me to believe there was another type of connection on some drives.

Syncopator. There can be. Some systems have eSATA and newer systems may also have USB 3.1/USB C. USB 2.0/USB 3.0 is pretty standard though and the most common external connector you'll find on external harddrives. The end that connects to the computer generally looks the same on all computer USB 2.0/3.0 ports, but the end that plugs into the external hard drive will vary.
