No mouse from USB rescue media

Thread needs solution

I just got a new ASUS laptop (Zenbook Pro UX501VW) and the trackpad on the laptop does now work within the USB rescue media. I could not find any articles related to this on the current 2016 version (2016 build 6571). I used the rescue media builder tool from the windows client. When I boot from the USB flash drive I am only given the UEFI boot menu and the 64bit option. It is extremely difficult to navigate all the screens with just a keyboard. If I ever accidentally open help I am screwed and have to reboot as I cannot close it with just a keyboard. It is very annoying. I verified force_modules=usbhid is already an argument within my boot media. When I try to add it, it just doubles it. I tried manually editing the x:\efi\boot\bootx64.xml file to add the 32bit options, but that has the same result as the 64bit version with no mouse.

I can use the same flash drive on a Dell XPS laptop and the trackpad on that works in both 32bit and 64bit options (I don't get the UEFI menu).

I found an old USB mouse, and that work fine on the new ASUS, but would be nice to find a fix to get the built in trackpad working like it does on other laptops.

I tried the same flash drive on an older ASUS (Zenbook UX303L) with the UEFI menu and the 64bit version and the trackpad on that worked fine.

Any ideas?

Don, welcome to these user forums.

The standard Acronis bootable Rescue Media is based on a Linux OS build and as such has a broad range of device driver support but this may not extend to the very latest hardware devices such as those in your new ASUS laptop and its trackpad.

This is a constantly changing target for the developers to include support for - the build 6571 version of ATIH 2016 already was updated for device support of many new models recently.

Your alternatives here are to use a USB mouse or to build the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media and see if that supports your trackpad.  If it gives the same issue as the Linux media, then you would need to build a version of the PE media with additional drivers for the trackpad.
