Development goes to the wrong direction

Thread needs solution

Where is the option to create a shortcut on the desktop?

Where is the option to mount an archive (I know I can also do with explorer - but why is it missing in the software?

The GUI develops more and more to a clerk & secretary software!

I installed V2014 again.

Abri, welcome to these user forums.

Sorry but this is exactly as above, a user forum, we have no control or influence over the design of Acronis products.

If you want to make your point to Acronis then please use the Feedback tool to do so.

By default when you install, it should create a shorcut - always has for me.

In Windows, while ACronis is launched and in the task bar, you can pin it to the task bar or the start menu for easy access by right clicking and selecting the option to do so. If you've deleted the desktop shortuct or it's gone missing, go to the following, right click and "send to desktop".

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageLauncher.exe"

Mount is done through Windows File explorer shell and requires it be done in Windows file explorer.  There is no need to "mount" in acronis, because you just click on "recover" and then you can navigate the backup from there.

As Steve mentioned, if you have a product suggestion or feedback, please use the applicatoin feedback tool to send it directly to Acronis. That's the only way it gets logged for sure.

I meant the feature to create a shortcut of the backup set on the desktop..

Abri, please see post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/38609#comment-140369 for details of how to create a desktop shortcut, this has not been provided in the application since 2014.

You can create a shortcut of any file you want on the destop, by navigating to it in Windows, right-clicking and selecting "send to desktop". Acronis does not do this automatically and I'm glad it doesnt', I have hundreds of backup .tib files and don't want them on my desktop. If you have a master repository for backups, you can create a shortcut of the main folder to make it easier to navigate there and then pick the different .tib files .

What an improvement! A work around at least, but I'll stick to 2014 - I do not see any improvement. Backup speed to a network drive is the same.

I agree with you, as I meant a totally different feature (which you are not missing obviously)

Abri, the choice will always be with the user, i.e. yours as to which version you decide to stick with.

The only issue with staying with an older version is when that no longer works with your Windows OS, ATIH 2014 is not supported for use with Windows 10 even though some users have got this working in that environment, but with each new Windows 10 build like the latest Anniversary Update, there is the possibility that it will stop working or be removed by the Windows Upgrade process (as other users have also reported).

I can concur with you Steve. During internal tests I've found out that a lot of ATIH versions can be installed on Windows 10 or earlier OS but won't work anymore as expected. I've tested installations of ATIH 2009-2017 in this batch.

ATIH 2016 is safe to use with Windows 10 but other than the missing shortcut Abri is reporting there are a lot of internal and visible improvements in ATIH 2017. Network backup and restore speed however, is not noticeable.

Every user has other objectives of importance of features but it was useful that Abri posted his own, so we can discuss this idea for future patches or updates.

Other than that I agree with Bobbo, to have my desktop free from tib shortcuts at the moment.

That's the point. I was thinking that I purchase a software for a PC and not for a Smartphone.  The latest GUI looks now more to be focused on Smartphones --> so it develops in the wrong direction for my needs and it is time to look for a different backup solution. After more than 10 Years the time might be come for a change.

And if the day comes, where the GUI of Visual Studio will develop in the same direction, then it will just take another 20 Years again, until some smart guy re-invents the 50 Year old GUI again.. ;)

Abri I hear you. However it is a common thing that GUIs today have a flat view, high contrasts and are optimized for touch devices of any class, so PC with touch screens attached, convertibles like Lenovo Yoga etc. Windows 10 then, is not a classic PC OS anymore but caters many platforms some of them have touch too.

Despite all this modern stuff, the most UI are still not scalable means they will issue out using smaller resolutions or to high resolutions.

Then you have to consider that these flat UIs might be helpful for older people aswell. Basically do not need a lot of expertise or time to explore the options. The main goal for ATIH was a clean and easy UI so we have been told.

Of course the GUI of ATIH 2013/2014 appeared to be more powerful but then it is absolutely horrible in modern resolutions.
