Export from Centralized Vault Before Recovery

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I apologize if this is in the wrong place, or a dumb question.  We just switched from Ghost to Acronis, so now I have a central management server to handle backups and restorations for about 10 other conputers.  Installing Acronis on the server was a breeze.  Even remote installation to the other computers was easy.  I created centralized vaults for each computer, and then I created backup plans for those computers, that went super easy also.  I restored some of the images onto computers that already had an OS and Acronis installed.  That was easy also.

So the last thing I have to do is restore a backup onto a blank disk.  I create a bootable DVD, boot into it, connect to the centralized vault, no problem.  I go to try to find the backup, and uh-oh, it shows one archive, 0 backups, created on date 1/1/70 (obviously not correct) and the size is 0.  On the central computer the backup looks fine! At this point I'm thinking I messed something up, so I redo the whole process, same result.  Back on the centralized server, in the Acronis application, I see an option to "Export Backup", so I chose to export the backup into another folder.  I try the restore again, but point the backup/archive at the "exported" one, and it works flawlessly.  So my question is simple.... if I want to restore a backup onto a blank drive, do I have to export the backup first? If so, why? What's the point of making backups if they're unusable until you "export" them? Or have I misunderstood how it's supposed to work? Can someone please explain how you would go about making a backup to a centralized vault and then restoring that backup onto a blank disk?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Philip,

Welcome to Acronis user forums! It's definitely not needed to export the backup to be able to restore it under a Bootable media. The incorrect information about the backup contents could be shown due to the inconsistency of the meta information. The information about the archives stored in the vault is located in the xml file for a personal\unmanaged vault and in the separate database for a centralized managed vault. If the backups are not shown, it's worth to recreate or refresh the meta data. This can be done as follows for a personal\unmanaged vault and for a managed vault (in case you are using Acronis Storage Node). I'd also recommend you to take a look at the following links:

Thank you,
