Acronis True Image Server (build 3.920) - System Hangs on "Locking Partition C"

Thread needs solution

I have a problem with Acronis True Image Server 9.1 - build 3.920 on a Windows Server 2003 Std Edition SP2. Randomly, the system freezes and stop responding when starting a scheduled backup job. In Acronis Log, i can see that the job is blocked at the "Locking Partition C" phase. The job usually starts at 0.45 am. When i arrive at the office in the morning, the system is pingable, but completely unresponsive. I have to hard-reset the machine to bring back the services foo my network.
The problem as i said before happens randomly. Other thing to mention, i have VSS enabled.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Best regards.

Hello Roberto,

Thank you for your post. I will certainly help you with this issue.

It is very likely that this lockup occurs because of VSS. Have you tried creating backups without this option?

If you need VSS to backup databases and we have determined that it is causing the lockup, I can suggest this workaround. You can temporarily pause databases to create a snapshot and then immediately un-pause them. Please check this article for instructions.

In Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 if there are issues with VSS, we can switch to Microsoft VSS and it resolves most of the issues.

If you need additional help, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello Anton, and thank you for your prompt reply.

That is exactly what i do! I use VSS because i have 3 Sqls Server Databases running on this machine. However, as a best practice, i stop transactions to the databases stopping them before snapshot is taken and restarting them immediately after.

Anyway, i will try to disable VSS to verify if that's causing the problem and, eventually, i'll let you know.

Thank you again.

Best Regards.

Roberto
