Sluggish interface and crashes for one year - "Closing the case is preferable" says Acronis
For over one year ago i reported that the user interface gets very sluggish the more separate files and folder you select. Time after time the response from Acronis has been that it will be fixed in the next update. That has never been the case and it is present in TI2017 as well, in the latest #5554 build.
I asked the support the other day if they have an ETA for a fix regarding this issue.
I got an answer now and it says among other things "Closing the case is preferable". O.k, so closing a case were TI2017 is sluggish and crashes when selecting folders is a valid solution and fixes the issue?
Here is a video demonstrating the issue in TI2017: https://youtu.be/Q1w0Vfw0vMc
Info about the video:
My goal here is to select all folders named "Scenarios" for backup. When i click on a folder i move the mouse pointer away so you can see how long it takes between the click and when the foldes is actually selected. In the beginning it works as expected but already after two/three folder is start to get sluggish and at the end it takes several seconds each time, TI2017 goes into "Not Responding" state several times, the user interface flashes and at the end TI2017 crashes.
Good to know is that if i manage to select all folders and then later (hour/day/week) want to add files or folders from another drive to the same backup job the user interface is as sluggish and thus making the application unusable.
Yes, the issue has been reported and have those case numbers: 02784632, 02549033, 02696201
For those users that use Files and folders backup, do you see the same issue when you select several individual files and/or folders?

Having a look at your YouTube video I note that the folders you are selecting are Steam folders accessed through your router and internet based. In my opinion that fact is likely a contributing factor to your issue. I do not use Steam so I do not have any idea what type of content is contained in these Scenrio folders. Nevertheless, I would say it is obvious that online content backup is not something that True Image has been designed for.
I do understand that Steam offers a Cloud storage of some sort, might it be possible to store these Scenario folders using that service? Something to think about I would think.

No, if you look again you can see the file path at the top and *all* files are stored locally, in this case on the system drive C:\. It can be reproduced if i move the files to any other drive in the system and it can be reproduced on another computer and it can be reproduced with other files and folders.

Sorry, I thought I could see "Router" in the path, I gues it is really Routes? Can you verifiy that these files are in that directory or are there jusst pointers in the directory to the actual file locations?
One more question, how much disk space do these files consume? Megabytes, Gigabytes?

Yes, Routes is the correct name. :) The files are in those folders and the path is long such as: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content\Routes\00000001-0000-0000-0000-000000000000\Scenarios.

I restored the files/folders to another drive: http://privat.bahnhof.se/wb792290/scenarios.png
If i instead choose the backup only the Routes folders and the use Exclusions feature in True Image i can filter out all un-necessary files and folders i see no slugginesh, so the amount of files and folders is not the issue. The issue is when you select many items manually. For example, i edit video and select project files here and there and the more files i manually select the more sluggish the user interface gets. Point is, the amount of files and the long file path and all the folders in the youtube video is not the actual issue. The actual issue is thet the more files/folders one select manually the more sluginesh one will experience.

Thanks for the clarification of the issue. Since I do not know all the interworkings of the product I would not care to offer comment on the apparent perfromance issue you experience. It would seem to be a limitation within the product but I have no idead what or even if such limitation would exist. From your description above it seems to point to the deep nesting of folder locations which possibly could effect the scanning method the application performs as it handles data but I just do not now that for certain.

Update:
Today i got the answer "I will not close the case and keep it open till this issue is fixed.". :)

I think the deep nesting makes it worse, but if select individual folders and files at the root of a HDD or a folder i see the same issue. So the issue seem to be that True image has problem to handle when one select more than ~20 files on the root drive or the same files in a folder or tha same amount of files scattered around different drives.
