Unable to restore exchange 2016 mailbox

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've made a backup of 4 database on my exchange server 2016 using the Exchange Agent. When browsing the backup in my vault in the management server, i see all my mailboxes but i'm unable to see the content of theses mailboxes. 

Also, when I try to restore the said mailboxes as PST on the same server that they come from, i receive this error : 

Command 'Recovering Microsoft Exchange mailboxes' has failed.

 Also, how can I export the EDB database directly from the backup ? Thanks.

Hello John,

Thank you for your posting! Be aware, that backup of MS Exchange 2016 is not supported in the build version 43994. Backup of Exchange 2016 databases is available starting with the new major product update Acronis Backup 11.7. Backup and recovery of Exchange 2016 mailboxes (including mailbox recovery from database backups) are not supported.

Hello all,

According to the information from our development team, granular restore of Exchange 2016 is planned for the next product version. The granular backup is unfortunately still not possible. I've registered your feature request in our internal system.

i have seen this post and am facing almost the same issue. I had acronis backup advanced 11.5 (bulid 43994) installed to backup microsoft exchange server 2013. i am able to do backup only on the database level, when i choose mailbox backup i get this: "Backup of mailboxes is not supported Microsoft Exchange Server 2013/2016. Please back up entire databases. You can recover mailboxes from backups of Exchange 2013 databases. Recovery of mailboxes from backups of exchange 2016 databases is not supported yet."

so after refering to acronis documentation i updated to acronis 11.7 (build 44421), but still the probelm persistes. please help.

Hi,

according to the documentation it is not supported to backup Mailboxes in Exchange 2013/2016, you can backup the database instead. But you can recover single Mailboxes from a backup.

Thanks for the reply. yes, this is according to documentation of acronis backup 11.5 for exchange. But in the acronis 11.7 documentation it says that it supports all editions of Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016 without stating anything about mailbox level backup and recovery.

Sorry i just checked the links you sent me and apparently it says that mailboxes backup is "Not available when backing up data of Exchange 2013 or later". but according to the document i saw-"AcronisBackupAdvancedExchange_11.7_userguide_en-US"- it doesn't say.

Okay, when i also try to recover mailboxes from from database level backup i get this:

knowing that i checked the "include mailboxes and folders" box in backup options.

I have used this link to the help docs (http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/) and navigated to Acronis Backup (Advanced) 11.7 Web help, the shipped Online help is nearly the same, the revised date is a little later (1/29/2016), but it states the same.

 

Have you upgraded the Agent for Exchange to 11.7?

Your logs are showing is still build #43994, which should be from 11.5.

Yes i have. This was prior to the update but still the problem persists.

I can't recover individual e-mails from database level backup as well, eventhough i mark the "include individual emails" in backup options.
