Won't activate

Thread needs solution

Have had lots of trouble with 2016 so thought I'd try 2017.  Big mistake.  Paid and won't activate.  Applied the fix and still no joy.  From the posts I am seeing many unhappy campers.  Seems like a paid beta release.

Have you reached out to tech support as they can help with all account, licensing and registration issues?

Does it show registered in your online account when you log in there?  If so, did you log in with the account in the Windows app?  If logged in, have you tried logging out and logging back in through the app.  Once logged in, you don't need to enter a serial key as it will be activated through the account login.

If you don't login and purchased an upgrade, you need to enter the new serial # and then would be prompted to enter a previous license key after that before it activates.

Been running 2017 as an upgrade from 2016 since the beta was releaesed and haven't had any issues registering or licensing the product.

Have taken all of the steps you mention and have reached out to tech support.  Had to be by email because of my work schedule.  I have just been so frustrated by Acronis over the last year.  Have been a long term user and no issues until recently.

Sorry to hear that.  Chat support is usually very reponsive and I believe it's 24/7 as well so hopefully you get time to reach out before email responds (email is slow).

I take it none of the above suggestions helped out either?

Have been fiddling with installing and uninstalling 2016 and 2017 trying to get ti to work.  Suddenly, SEEMS like the last one took.  2017.  Will keep my fingers crossed!

Well, it updated and activated.  And it works.  Problem is, it works too well.  I now have a program that repeatedly backs up my entire computer over and over again.  I deleted all the schedules and it still starts another backup as soon as the last one finishes.  If I stop the backup it stops and then restarts within a minute.  I had finally gotten 2016 working fine and then I decided to impprove.  Again, sorry I did so right now.  Found a serviuce running called Acronis Non-Stop Backup Service (or close to that).  It remained even after a full uninstall with REVO Uninstaller Pro.  Have deleted that and so far no repetitive backups, but no more scheduling either.  I feel like a Beta tester who paid for the provilege.

Michael, if you are willing to give it a further try, then please download the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link in my signature below - run this as Administrator to remove all traces of ATIH from your computer, then try a new clean install of 2017 running the installer as Administrator.  Download the latest build 5554 installer from your Acronis account if you don't already have it.

This very frustrating. My licensed Acronis True Image Home 2011 worked fine for many years and then would no longer back up. So I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2017 valid for 3 computers. My cleverbridge reference number: Not to be shown here

It almost loads but at the end I get this error:

“Product: Acronis True Image 2017

Build: 5554

Date: 9/27/2016

Time: 1:42:37 PM

More info: Acronis Knowledge Base

Error details: Cannot remove the following components, because they were installed for the current user only: Acronis True Image Home 2011 (version 14.0.6597), Acronis True Image Home 2011 (version 14.0.6597). Please uninstall them manually and try again.

If you still need assistance, contact our Support team.”

I tried uninstalling by using Windows 7 Control panel uninstall, that would not remove it. I tried by using my original LICENSED DVD purchased from Acronis and selecting uninstall. That failed.

I downloaded Acronis Cleanup Tool and used it. That seemed to work, but upon trying to install Acronis True Image Home 2017 the above error was displayed.

“If you still need assistance, contact our Support team.” You may have to wait about 24 hours for your license to work its way through the Acronis system to enable the chat support window, but when it is enabled, the staff is very helpfull.

John, please download the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link in my signature below, this should be run as Administrator after first doing a normal uninstall of any existing Acronis programs (if you still have any shown in the Control Panel, Programs & Features list).  If these cannot be uninstalled normally, then use the cleanup tool.

The cleanup tool will remove all versions from ATIH 2010 to 2017 plus also Acronis Disk Director products too.

Restart your computer after using the cleanup tool, then retry installing ATIH 2017.

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed but I think we are a GO here.  Activation was accomplished, then the constant backups one right after the other.  Disabling the constant backup service seems to have been the ticket.  With that service disabled the software now runs the scheduled backup and then stops.  As I said, will keep my fingers crossed but seems to be AOK at this point.

Michael, glad to hear that you have got Acronis activated.

Not sure why you are seeing a problem with Non Stop Backup unless you have created a Non Stop Backup task at some point, or you have a scheduled task that is trying to run repetively.

For the latter issue, see KB document: 1859: Acronis Scheduler Manager which can be used to clean out any residual scheduled tasks.  To do this, first download the schedmgr.exe program from the KB document, run this as Administrator and it will launch a Command prompt type black window.

In the new window, type the command get list and it will list all known Acronis scheduled tasks in your computer.  You can type the further command task zap which will clear the list of scheduled tasks.  After doing this, if you have setup a new backup task to run on a schedule, you will need to go back into the task Options and check that the schedule is still correct / change as needed.

Steve,

Thank you for your input.
I did use the Acronis Cleanup Tool already.  "I tried uninstalling by using Windows 7 Control panel uninstall, that would not remove it. I tried by using my original LICENSED DVD purchased from Acronis and selecting uninstall. That failed.

I downloaded Acronis Cleanup Tool and used it. That seemed to work, but upon trying to install Acronis True Image Home 2017 the above error was displayed."

The last thing that did work to allow install of Acronis True Image 2017 was to down load and use MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.  It took hours to run, but did enough remnant cleanup of  Acronis True Image Home 2011 to be able to install Acronis True Image Home 2017.

Now also I must amend my previous snarky remarks and apologize to the Acronis staff.  Yes, the chat support was grayed out, but after about 24hrs it was enabled.  I used it.  The technical support specialists are VERY good, professional and extremely patient. I commend Arka especially.

After a successful install, Here is a VERY IMPORTANT info file to access at Acronis and read

https://kb.acronis.com/content/2931

It concerns cloning. On Acronis True Image Home 2017 Do not be concerned that the cloning tool is grayed out or results in a popup not allowing you to do it. Just use the Rescue Media Builder to create a Rescue Media DVD, then follow the instructions in the https://kb.acronis.com/content/2931

The clone function will work very well then.
