DD 12 does not see Seagate 5TB external drive.

Thread needs solution

I replaced my copy of DD11 with DD12 because DD11 (from what I understand) cannot see drives above 2TB. I just tried DD12, and it STILL doesn't see my new 5TB Seagate external. I don't see anything in the sales materials listing any size limitations, what's the story here?

Are these drives accessed via USB?

Do they use USB2 or 3?

I assume they are externally powered, if not, can they be externally powered?

Does Windows see the drives?

If both of you have had DD10 or 11 installed previously, check that Snapapi (2250) and diskbundleEx.dll (3223) is the version for DD12. Might also be worth checking that mmsBundle which is also build 3223 is correct.

Do these drives install their own drivers or do they use the standard MS disk driver?

For diskbundle and mmsbundle you need to look in the DiskDirector folder.

Zt. überhaupt nicht.

Hello Everyone,

please make sure that logical sector size of your disks is equal to 512 byte.

Disks with logical sector size different from 512 byte are still not supported. However, size of a logical sector usually depends on connection interface and as a workaround you can connect the disk directly to the disk controller on the motherboard via SATA/IDE/SAS/FC cables.

Please find more details in this article.

Thank you.

I find it hard to believe that Acronis DD 12, which I paid for, cannot see or operate on USB 3.0 external drives, but the open source gParted does and can. I have seven such drives, which makes DD pretty much useless to me. I'm using the latest update of Win 8.1.

Also, I can't load DD 12 from the bootable CD. True Image works fine, but DD gives me a black screen and never loads.

Hello James,

I'm very sorry to know that you are dissatisfied.

Acronis Disk Director 12 supports USB 3.0 so the problem should be elsewhere. Have you checked logical sector size of your external disks (more information here)? Are they recognized when you plug them in to USB 2.0 port?

As for the difficulties with bootable media, can you please describe what exactly you see while booting? Do I understand correctly that you don't get to boot menu and see only black screen without any error messages?

Thank you.

Hi Anna,

My drives are all WD My Book drives with the factory format. I've never looked at the logical sector size, but they're available in True Image and every other program I use.

On the bootable media, I get the menu, but when I choose either of the DD 12 options I briefly get the Acronis logo "loading" screen, then nothing. Just a black screen.

Thanks for your help.

Jim

Hello James,

can you please collect a system report (Help > Collect system information) and upload it to our FTP-Server.
I've sent you a personal link in a PM.

Thank you.

"Collect system information" fails on my system.

New wrinkle: DD 12 is now seeing the USB drives, but only as logical drives. I have two partitions on one drive, and DD sees each one as a physical drive.

I am having the same issue with Seagate 3 and 4 Tb usb external drives ... 5 drives are all visible to Win 7 SP1 but not ADD12 ( purchased ~7/1/14). Also, when I try to generate a system report, I get failure 0xE10002 and Failed to generate report from log 'System', 'Application' and Failed to obtain the list of groups in the CMD window. Finally I receive a windows error saying that systeminfo.exe has stopped working.

Where do I go from here to get a working version of ADD12?

Thanks, Ted

Just upgraded to DD12 and my Seagate Backup Plus 4TB unit is not recognized as well. Logical Sector Size is 512 according to msinfo32. Partition is a single GPT NTFS Primary partition, default parameters. Had to resort to the enemy's application to get my edits done. :/

Solved:

The default partition setup on the 4TB were 2 partitions: a small partition that is MBR and hidden, and the GPT main storage one. The logical sector size comes from the hidden partition and is 512. The main partition is setup as 4096 sector size, which is why Disk Director is balking.

My recommendation is to wipe the drive clean and make a new, standard sized 512 one for main storage. Sad that Disk Director has this limitation. They should at least report the drive detected, but an incompatible sector size is detected.

It is now almost 2017. Issue is NOT resolved with DD12 VERSION ADD12_3270_en-EU.EXE
I still cannot recognize my external USB drives, flash drives, or sd CARD.
So I installed MiniTools 9.1 FREE program, and it worked great!
(I ran BOTH programs side-by-side)
I can't believe I paid $49.99 for DD but got a better program for free...
note: a paid disk partitioning program that does not recognize disks? seriously?

Jay, try WinPE-based media which offers wider hardware support and customization possibilities:

1) install the latest Windows 10 ADK. When asked about the components to install, choose WinPE and Deployment tools only

2) launch the media builder in Acronis Disk Director and select Windows PE in the "Bootable media type" drop-down list. Mark "Create x64 media", click Next, add drivers for your USB controller and proceed with the media creation.

Slava
