Rebooting

Thread needs solution

I've been using True Image for quite a few years. I was using version 2014 till yesterday. I'm now trying version 2017.
Just to run some test , I created a backup of one directory from my computer to an external HD. If I try to restore the files I backuped up, I get a message telling me that the restore will be cancelled if I don't reboot the computer. Should it work like that ?? If so, why do I need to reboot ??

Thanks

If you do any full partition or disk recovery, it will want to reboot to close out the windows OS and boot into the Acronis System Recovery Manager (ARSM) which is the Acronis Linux kernel environment (like the offline bootable recovery media). Actually, doing a disk or partition recovery from Windows is dangerous because Acronis will temporarily overwrite the Windows bootloader for some reason, it fails to boot, it may not be set back properly and require you to do a Windows startup repair to fix it.

You can select a file/folder recovery from your disk/partition backup though and that would be OK. Otherwsie, for file/folder recovery, you can just double click your backup .tib file and navigate the content to copy/paste from. Or, you can right click the backup.tib file and "mount it as a volume letter and copy and paste from that too.

For any disk or partition recoveries, always start with with offline media if you can - it's safer for your OS as it won't modify the windows bootloader.

It really depends on the contents of the folder, what OS you are running can also play a part and, if you have disk caching enabled on your system the backup may not have completed write to disk when you chose to perform the recovery. A few more details on these aspects may offer some insight.
