Problem activating startup recovery manager

Thread needs solution

I have just purchased Acronis True Image Home 2009 upgrade. When I try to activate the startup recovery manager I get the message "unable to resize partition with bad block". But I've run error check and it has repaired the bad block on my C drive.  Can I not use the startup recovery manager? Liz

What build of TI 2009 are you using? You can press Alt and then click on Help >> About in the menu to find out. The current build (9,796) doesn't require the SZ to use the ASRM. Are you trying to create a SZ and activate the ASRM?

If any sectors on a partition are marked as bad, TI (and DD) won't resize those partitions.

If you're using Vista, you could try using Disk Management to shrink the partition. I'm not sure how it handles resizing when bad sectors are present, though.

Another option would be to image the partition and then restore it smaller (resize during the restore). If you do this, make sure to run chkdsk /r on the partition afterwards to re-mark the bad sectors. Note that the bad sectors may end up being in the SZ partition (which wouldn't be good).
