Bacup Hangs in the Calculating time...

Thread needs solution

Using an external HD space 1TB. There is another backup on this Ext HD from my PC (using ATI 2016).

Bacing up a lap top (used space 44gig) total avail space has more than enough room for this BU.
After clicking Backup it takes a long time before the backup starts.

Any suggestions for peeding up this backup?

FYI

Use this process with 2 other backups on another Ext HD without a

lengthy time before backing up a laptop.

Albert, the time taken by Acronis in 'Calculating time..' depends in part on the system on which the backup is being run on more than on the amount of free space available on the target backup drive.

The 'calculating time' is an indication that Acronis has called the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to create a snapshot of system files, processes and data, much of which is locked while Windows is active.

The snapshot data is stored on the source system drive, and the amount of free space on the system can have an impact on the speed of the snapshot process, along with the speed of the source processor, memory etc.

You can test whether VSS is an issue for the backup task by disabling this for that one specific task by using the advice given in post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45832#comment-346558
