Acronis true image 2017 advanced format support

Thread needs solution

Has support for advanced format drives been discontinued? Upon trying the trial & making a boot dvd, when trying to boot from the dvd an error "unsupported sector size 4096" shows up, but when doing this with the 2016 boot dvd it boots up just fine, i tried to boot the 2017 dvd without my advanced format disk attached, it boots fine but when attaching the advanced format drive (i backup to it) the boot dvd immediately becomes unresponsive (freezes). I also noticed in the acronis kb article that 2017 is not listed as having support for advanced format drives :(

John, welcome to these user forums.

In the ATIH 2017 User Guide: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) section it states:

Acronis True Image now allows migrating or restoring systems from a previously created archive, to hard drives larger than 2^32 bytes (2 TB for disks with standard 512-bytes sized logical sector or 16 TB for disks with 4 KB (4096-bytes) sized logical sector).

This suggests to me that ATIH 2017 does still support 4K sector size drives.

If this is causing you a problem when trying to boot from the DVD rescue media, then I would suggest contacting Acronis Support directly as you get 30 days of support for the Trial version of the software.

John,

With the trial installed, you can build a USB rescue media (give it a shot).  Then, make sure thta you're booting the USB flash drive in UEFI mode and not legacy mode.  I only suggest using a USB because some systems default the CD/DVD to legacy mode and don't support UEFI boot from them (plus I think USB boot drives are faster and more reliable since they don't get scratched and generally aren't susceptible to things like a bad "burn" during the creation process).

Otherwise, I'd also suggest contact Acronis to help verify if the issue remains - trial versions are supported during the 30 day period.

With my advanced sector hdd plugged in when booting from the dvd i get that error, but it's disconnected it boots up fine...until i plug it in which it then instantly freezes, i've uninstalled the 2017 version until they add advanced sector support back, i'm back to 2016 and backing up fine :/

John, have you submitted Feedback directly to Acronis about this issue (using the feedback tool in ATIH in the Help section of the GUI)?  If not, then unless someone else does so, they are not likely to make any changes to address this issue.

I just did that via the submit feedback at the top of this page, i doubt they actually read the feedback/do anything about it but at least i gave it a try.

John, the same feedback tool is present in ATIH 2016 in the Help section of the GUI.  I would suggest including an Acronis System Report (one of the options with the feedback tool) but create this with your advanced format drive connected so that the report will include the drive specifications.

The words quoted in my initial post is the error message, i can't provide a screenshot as I've already uninstalled it

Mikhail,

Thanks for posting this.  I am sure it will come up again so this will be good to know!
