list of backups has disappeared!

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone:

I seem to have lost the list of backups you should get when you first open ATI 2016.  What I get is only the most recent one. However, when I do a recover and click on Back-UP version and use the down arrow, the previous backups are listed.  My current backup settings are do not schedule, Custom scheme, full backup, with validation. Someone suggested I delete the database folder, but that hasn't solve the problem.  Do I have my backup settings wrong, or is there something else I need to do?  By the way, I added the two previous backups I did (since they did not show up after I deleted the database folder, but still no luck.)  The .tib files are on the backup drive, they just are not being recognized by ATI at startup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated1

Thanks!

Chris

Chris, take a look in your C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder and check what files you have there - there should be one file for each of your backup tasks - you can open these with any text editor and check in the top of the file for the task name (they are in XML text format).

If you can see all the correct task script files in the folder, then try doing a Repair install.  Reinstall ATIH 2016 over the top of your existing installation but download the latest build 6571 installer from your Acronis account first, and run as administrator when you do the repair.

Hi Steve:

I went to that location and the attached file is all I found ending in .tis

It reads like this:

 0a107aa3-3a6b-43b8-bfaa-944d37a643ac.tib_.tis

What should I do next?

Chris

Chris, if you can only see the one .tis file then it suggests that you only have the one backup task, which doesn't explain what has happened to any other tasks you may have had previously.

I can only suggest that you try creating some new tasks and see if these remain in the list.

The other option that you have is to use the option to 'Add existing backup' that you will find at the bottom of the list of tasks with the (V) icon when you click on it.  This will bring back the backup file name as the task name and will require you to reconfigure the task settings.

Steve:

I tried a disk and partition backup without validation to another folder, but there is still only one script in the location you mentioned.  I just don't understand why I can't indivdually name each disk image backup that I want to do like in ATI 2014.  Your thoughts?

Thanks!

Chris

Chris, you can change the task name in the ATIH GUI but this doesn't change the name of the backup image file unless you create a new backup task with the new name, or use the option to 'Clone task settings' by clicking on the (V) icon next to the task name to be cloned.  The backup files for the new or cloned task will take the name given.

If you used the same task to do your disk and partition backup to another folder then you have just modified the existing .tis script file for the task rather than creating a new file.

Hi Steve:

Can you please walk be through the steps (or maybe screenshots) of how I can create a new backup task with a new name? It was much easier to do under 2014, but the 2016 interface is hard for me to learn. Really, all I want to do is to take the existing backup task name and add a date to it, like 10232016.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Chris, the process of creating a whole new backup task is very simple, just click on the + icon at the bottom of the task name column (to the right of the A in the left corner of the window), and this will start you off with a new task with a default name shown at the top.  You can then edit or change the name to whatever you want it to be.

If you want to duplicate your existing backup task and just change the name, then you need to click on the (V) icon next to the existing task and then click on the option to Clone settings - see screenshot below.

Cloning the settings will give you a new task with the same name but prefixed by (1) shown at the top of the list - edit the name to remove the (1) prefix and add the date to the end of the task name.
