Restoring system image on other system

Thread needs solution

Greetings.

I have full-drive backup created on older configuration (win7 x64) and now i want to deploy it on new skylake platform (asrock extreme6+i5 6600k). Can someone tell me, what i will need for this operation except Acronis universal restore?

thx.

Aoi Hana, welcome to these user forums.

In principle you should be able to take your older Windows 7 x64 backup and restore it to your new skylate system then run Acronis Universal Restore to prepare the restored OS to work with the new hardware, but in practise this is more complicated depending on the differences between the old and new systems.

The old and new systems must allow the choice of the same disk controller mode used by the old system, i.e. AHCI typically, plus must be able to boot the OS in the same way using Legacy/MBR BIOS or UEFI.  If your old system booted using MBR but the new defaults to using UEFI, then you would need to edit the EFI configuration to allow for Legacy / CSM boot.

Acronis Universal Restore may also need access to chipset and disk controller device drivers for your new skylate motherboard and components.

Another consideration will be what disk drive you will be restoring to and whether your Acronis bootable Rescue Media will recognise and support the same - if you are using ATIH 2015 then this may not support newer types of SSD devices, whereas the latest ATIH 2016 and 2017 media does have this support.
