sql database huge size

Thread needs solution

I am backing up about 25 workstations with occasional full backups. I have noticed that the acronis sql database (on my sql 2003 server) has become quite large. It is now 265 GB with the acronis_cms_cards_log.ldf at 185 GB. The database has been growing rapidly. Is this a typical size for the acronis database and can I do anything to make it any smaller?

Thanks.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

We are aware of this issue and it is currently being reproduced in our Test Lab so that our Development team can fix it.

This issue appears on SQL servers which use Full Recovery model. The SQL Express 2005 used by default in our software uses Simple Recovery model. With Full Recovery model transaction logs can grow and get rather large in size. We are still unable to pinpoint the cause of this issue.

As a workaround, you can check your database settings and switch from full to simple recovery model as well as truncate your logs.

If you need additional help or have any other issues, please let me know.

Thank you.

Thanks. I switched to simple recovery and that allowed the logs to be automatically truncated (after a day or so). Databases are now a fraction of the size.

What are the steps to switch from full to simple recovery model? I don't know the SQL "sa" password to access.

Whenever we attempt to add additional machines to the AMS (Acronis Management Server), the Acronis agent installs, however, the machine does not get added to the list of AMS machines. As a result, the failure produces the following message:

"Message: Failed to add machine 'A8F8E9DA-2CAB-470D-8B29-9489E812C3F0' to the synchronization database."

This also occurs when adding other machines, as well. Since I don’t know the SQL password to the account, "sa"

Appreciate any help you can offer.

Sincerely,

Barry
