No 1 Click Restore in Acronis 2017?

Thread needs solution

I cannot find 1 Click Restore in Acronis True Image 2017.

I find the system restore process disturbingly slow. I mean the SSD reading/writing speed is good, but when I restore a system for the 5th time a day, (because I test softwares) I get tired of clicking my way through all those menu items in the Acronis rescue environment.
I found 1 click restore mentioned in the Acronis 2017 help file.

It says:

  • Acronis One-Click Restore can be added to the media only when creating a full backup of an entire hard disk.

Well I created a full backup of my entire hard disk but still don't see this option anywhere in Acronis 2017. Even in the Advanced/Removable Media Settings this option is missing.

I also tried Acronis 2016, but I have the same problem.
So I would like to create an 1 click restore of my C: drive to restore my Windows faster (with fewer options to click through). Is it possible in Acronis True Image 2017?
I'm using the trial version by the way.

Trial is limited - only basic features available in the free trial...

Table of trial limitations of Acronis products

Acronis True Image 2017 (Windows) Trial 30 days NA NA See limitations NA See limitations (other options are disabled)

I don't see it either though - will test with a full new backup and selecting to add the additional features under the advanced tab.  You should contact technical support directly to double check with Acronis to verify if the option is available, or not.  Never used it myself, but it seems like it would only be available if you do a full backup and in the advanced options, you select to add true image to the recovery location as well and then use that specific bootable media (not an .iso or a usb flash drive that you boot to seperately) - just my guess at this point.

My friend (who originally recommended this software to me) has the full, latest version of True Image.

I asked him to make a full backup of his Windows hard drive to a removable disk. He says there's no 1 click option for him too.  :-(

It seems like Acronis removed their only function from their software which got me interested in their product.   :-(

My current backup software is exactly as fast as True Image (sometimes to me it seems even faster), but it doesn't have a 1 click restore option. This is why I installed the trial True Image to try this interesting function. But if even the full version doesn't have it I'm not going to buy it for sure.

I can find tons of reliable backup software, even for free. Some of them are very professional too.

My only pain is the complicated and tiring restore process, which it seems like nobody cares about but me.
When somebody has to restore a system more times a day, those disturbing options page by page.... they get really irritating.

A one click restore option would really make my job easier.

I'm really sad about this.   :-(

It is actually 4 clicks instead of just 1.  From the main GUI click on to select the backup you wish to restore, at the bottom of the screen select Recover disks.  Now click in the box to the left of the disk listed in the next screen then, click the green Recover now button at bottom right of the GUI.

The above may actually be a one click if you only have 1 backup task defined or 1 installed hard disk.

I hope you are just kidding. I'm not talking about Windows environment!
I'm talking about WinPE & Recovery environment.
I'm talking about this:

As you can see on the picture it was a menu option in the 2012 version of the recovery environment.
Where is it in the 2017 version?
Did they really remove an outstanding feature like this from the newest software?

I'm guessing yes at this point - but to be sure, since it is still listed in the documentatoin, please contact technical support to open a case with them for confirmation.

My guess as to why it would be removed....

01) 2012 was strictly designed around legacy boot and had not UEFI capability.  2015 and newer are legacy and UEFI capable and the user must configure the bios first depending on their board/firmware if they want it to default to UEFI or legacy (if it supports both).  In many cases, the bios firmware requires direct user interaction to pick UEFI or legacy boot of the recovery media as well.  If it was 1-click, chances are users with legacy OS installs on UEFI supported boards would boot the recovery media incorrectly and the recovered image would not be bootable as a result... vice-versa for those with UEFI OS installs if the media automatically booted into legacy mode.

02) I have a feeling one-click recovery resulted in some less than desired results for some users.  If you can't pick which drive the image is going to be restored to, who's to say those with multiple internal drives would automatically default to the correct one - especially if a new drive is being used for the restore that was never in the system when the image was taken - how could Acronis guess as to which internal SATA drive to automatically restore to in those cases?

03) For those with multiple FULL backups on the same media (not uncommon), how would the one-click know which of those to use?

These are just my theories, but I have a feeling that one-click, although possibly convenient for some (those with very simple backup needs and a single backup and only a legacy system), is probably more troublesome for everyone else.  Again though, you should contact technical support to confirm with them.  You have full support with your trial so this is an excellent case for them to work with you directly on since this is a feature you're interested in.

As for the free backup programs.  Yes, there are some pretty good ones out there.  I use another as my secondary "just in case" backup.  However, even the best of the free ones is limited and most have similar limitations like:  can't password protect or encrypt backup files, can't use incrementals, doesn't support certain drive types like eMMC, no universal restore, etc.  For many/some, these may be just fine.  However, if you need some of these other basic functions, then you'd still have to shell out some cash to get them in the other products too.

Hi all,

I've clarified with the development team: the feature Acronis One-Click Restore is not available on the latest builds of Acronis True Image. The documentation will be adjusted accordingly. However, as the feature has been rather popular, it (similar funcationality) will likely be implemented in the future iterations.

Thank you,

EDIT - Deleted (wrong post - sorry).  Thanks Steve!

Rob, think that your post above should have been for https://forum.acronis.com/forum/127684 not this one.
