Context Menu and Windows explorer
Hi I know a few years ago there was a discussion about removing the Context menu from the Right mouse Click. Is this available in 2017?
I upgraded to ATI 2017 from 2016 on Monday and have had no end of freezes in windows exlorer (Windows 10 Home. Version 1511, OS Build 10586.679). The right click on mouse results in around a 2 minute wait for the menu to appear. I have removed all other items from the context menu. Win RAR and Adobe Pro.
Still the problem continues.
Uninstalled ATI 2017 and went back to 2016 no issues in Explorer or with the Context Menu slowing things down, reinstalled ATI 2017 and problem returns again.
Does anybody know if the ATI Context menu can be removed from windows, this will aid me in diagnosing the problem.
Thanks.

I uninstalled 2017 then ran the Cleanup tool and reinstalled still having problems with Explorer and right clicks.
Still no answer to removing the Context menus from the right click from within the software itself many years been on the users wish list.
I have now reinstalled 2016 and working happily. As a note I didnt realise the upgrade would tie me in to a subscription and not a perpetual license for the software. Shame but 2016 will be my last Acronis.

Martin, what version of ACronis did you purchase? Acronis offers a perpetual version and a subscription version. Cloud in 2016 is the subscription and the non-cloud is perpetual. It's up to the user to pick the one that fits their needs best and purchase that one. Depending on how long you've had it and/or whether or not you're actually using the Cloud, you could contact tech support and let them know you did not realize that the subscription limited the functionality of the software and required renewal to keep it active - worth a shot.

As for removing the context menus in Explorer, there's not an option specifically in Acronis anymore (that I'm aware of). However, you should be able to go into Windows startup and disable the tibmounter.exe which should serve the same purpose. It's stored in the following location and is set in the Windows Startup path automatically
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\TibMounter.exe
In Windows 8.1 and earlier, you would open msconfig (search bar >>> type "msconfig" without quotes >>> press <enter>) >>> then go to the startup tab and find Tibmounter and set to disabled). In Windows 10, it's done from ctrl+alt+del >>> task manager >>> startup tab >>> Acronis Tib Mounter monitor >>> set to disabled.
I don't know if that will stay disabled after launhcing Acronis, but woth a shot to see if it does and/or if that serves the purpose you're currently looking for.

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback and yes the subscription was my fault, I assumed subscription was for Updates, Cloud and telephone support during your subscription period and not that the product would cease to function after the subscription. Not very clear on the purchase page. Purchase has been refunded, to be honest I am a little wary now anyway with forum quoting old backups no longer working.
Anyway thanks for the information reference the TibMounter.exe, I used to turn this off in msconfig. It actually does re-enable once ATI is started.

Glad you got a refund.
If you look on any backup product forum, there are people with recovery issues for one reason or another. Most of the time, it's a lack of fundamental PC knowledge (bios settings), or hardware has failed, or something along those lines. The key with any backup product is don't put your eggs in one basket. You really need more than one backup scheme for variation. You should also keep the backups in different media (one backup on hard drive A and the other on drive B or a NAS). The rule of 3-2-1 is the IT industry minimum (standard if you will) and should be put into practice at home too.
As for the tibmounter starting when Acronis launches, you could set a "post backup task" of the backup job in the advanced tab (see screenshot). This would only kill it when the backup job runs though, so if it starts automatically, a better way would be to copy it in a .txt file and save the extension from .txt to .bat.
taskkill /F /IM TibMounterMonitor.exe
You could then do a couple of things with the .bat file (instead of manually running it).
1) have it run automatically at logon of any users... put the .bat file in the following folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp. This will kill the the service (if it is running) anytime someone logs on.
2) Used in conjunction with #1 and a post backup command, that should keep it killed whenever the system is in use.
3) Alternatively, or in addition, you can create a scheduled task that runs the .bat file at certain intervals of the day as well (just in case)
I realize the option was there in previous versions, but am offering suggestions that are usable/doable and will be set and forget once they are in place if you want to go that route.

Hello Martin,
I just wanted to confirm you that we know about the request for an option to turn on and off the integration with Windows Explorer.
If you opened a support ticket about the problem with the context menu, we would be glad to help you.
Regards,
Slava
