Why does Sync Fail?

Thread needs solution

I've only been on ATI 2017 with a Cloud account for a week.  I have three sync definitions set up on three small folders.  One sync definition contains data for Quicken Starter Edition, which is the most often used app dealing with data in that sync folder.

I often, almost with every Quicken use, get a red systray icon for Sync.  Opening ATI to Sync screen shows it stuck on that folder (two other less used sync defined folders work fine).  Where can I see more detailed log info to help me inderstand why it's failing?

Donald, please download the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below, this will help you see the detailed messages written by your backup task to the service log files.

As I understand, Quicken, if this is the same as Quickbooks, runs in memory when active and therefore may not allow Acronis to backup its active files if the backup is run while the application is running.  This may be the cause of the sync hang.

Thanks Steve. I have the reader and will monitor things a bit to help figure it out. I suspect you are right about how Quicken works.

A somewhat related question on Sync.  I get a systray slideout message every time it successfully sync's something.  Is it possible to just get the slideout when it fails?  ...or show a success message only a few mins after the last success?  I do web site work with Adobe Dreamweaver.  That work does a LOT of saves, every time I make a code change and want to see it on the web site.  The incessent slideouts with their 'bing' is distracting.  I don't see anywhere to alter the on-screen notifications for Sync.

[BTW: I've been a Acronis user since there was an Acronis, just new to Acronis cloud work.]

Donald, for the notification messages, I would suspect that this has to be controlled by Windows and turned off or on using the options that Windows provides, which in turn depends on which version of Windows you are running.

Thanks, I just did that (Win 10).  That is a global switch though, all or nothing from ATI.  I was hoping for more resolution in the notifications.  It's ok though, I'm used to the backup side of ATI for knowing whats up, and the Sync systray icon is enough to draw my attention to Sync issues.  I'm good on notiifications now.  I'll get back here when I find some algorythm for that one Sync folder and Quicken.

I got the read-logs file, thank you.  I had a 'red systray sync icon' today.  I have 4 folders sync'ed (sunk?), one covers the Quicken data mentioned above.  Today's problem was to a folder that I had not even used today (my medical history records).   After seeing the red icon, I opened Acronis, went to sync, saw it was the Med folder, did a 'pause' and 'start' and the sync status for that folder went green from red.

Then I ran the read-logs pgm and nothing was there.  The end of the log report was about the successful daily backup I did an hour before, nothing about the sync issue after that.

[EDIT: I just realized the log reader pgm displays types.  In the Sync Agent log, I've got the errors, but nothing I can understand, mainly a 60-80 character error code.]

Donald, you are welcome to post the Sync Agent log to the forum so we can take a look at what you are seeing, but as far as the long error codes are concerned, we have no means of interpreting these, so you would need to use the Feedback tool in the ATIH GUI and submit an Acronis System Report which will also pick up all the log files, make a reference to this forum topic and see what answer you get back.

I'm going to monitor things a bit to see what algorythm their may be for what I'm seeing.  If I report it, I'd like to be able to add an exact scenario for how to reporduce the problem.

[Update: I decided that Sync has too much incessent interaction for my needs, causing annoying delays.  I'm not syncing so someone else somwhere can see new data two minutes from now, so sync was overkill for me.  I switch my procedures to just do a daily backup to Cloud of those folders.]

Donald, it is sometimes a matter of trying these things to see what best suits your own requirements.  I don't use Sync or Non Stop Backup for much the same reasons, simply not needed or would be overkill.
