Why doesn't Sync have a password option?

Thread needs solution

I somewhat confused over the security aspect of Syncs.

I normally just make TI2017 backups to Acronis Cloud using a password for the backup set.  I never saw a need for using Sync as a backup solution but it does seem to upload much faster than the regular Cloud backup.  I know my data is encrypted on the Cloud, but why does a regular Cloud backup give you a password option, but the Sync does not?

Thanks

Good question - don't really know. This would be a good one to submit feedback on using the feedback tool in the app.  I'd also open up a support case via chat to see if perhaps a direct Acronis technician can better answer this question.

Hello L8CS,

Thank you for a good question/suggestion. I have passed it over to the development team for consideration.

Synchronization in Acronis True Image was initially thought as an easy way to share data between computers and, in earlier versions, synchronizing folders within 1 computer and with shared network folders. The simplicity and effortless approach to using the sychronization feature were very important then. We even had a default sync which was created automatically without any required interaction from the user at all. Putting a barrier for syncing, even as an option, was not desired.

If user wanted a safety box, he was supposed to create backups instead of using synchronization.

Slava, thanks for responding.

My largest individual folder on the cloud is 86GB.  Because there is no Incremental or Differential backup to the cloud, the only choice I know of, is to do a Full Backup if I want to update my files.  At 86GB, that is rather time consuming, so I created a new Sync Folder on my desktop to upload any changes.

Sync works in a pinch but it doesn't afford the same level of security as an encrypted cloud backup.  However Sync appears to update it's cloud folder much faster than a regular cloud backup.  I could break my large folder into smaller folders which would allow a faster cloud backup, but harder to manage on my desktop and in TI2017.  I already have several smaller cloud backups in addition to the larger one and they are easier to manage and re-upload if neccessary.  But there is only some much room on the TI2017 GUI, so I have to condense my local and cloud backups so I can see them all at one time.

So in a nutshell, a Incremental or Differential Backup option for the cloud backup would resolve the security issues I have.

Thanks again

I actually use File and Folder backups to the cloud for photo storage and they definitely behave as incrmenetals even though the UI doesn't specify this. In fact, the engine is very impressive in that it fully compares the cloud contents to the local contents and updates only the changed items, even if I do something like add a new folder to the backup.

Maybe try setting up a test File and Fodler cloud backup on the smaller folder and see if the behavior is what you need?

Best,

Philip
