Creating USB bootable rescue media for True Image 2017 3 users license.

Thread needs solution

Do I have to create a separate rescue USB for each computer or will one work for all of them? Is the rescue USB computer specific?

John, welcome to these user forums.

In principle you should be able to create one USB rescue media stick and use this for multiple different computers but how well this will work depends on how different each of those computers are?

The standard Acronis Rescue media is based on a linux kernel which will work on many computers but may not work on some modern computers which use the EFI boot loader and Secure Boot.

If you want a truly universal USB rescue media boot stick, then the recommendation is to create the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media, which in turn requires that you install the Microsoft Windows 10 ADK which has support for the majority of systems.  You will be prompted to download and install the ADK when you select the Windows PE media in the Rescue media Builder application.

See post: 127281: MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER for a more flexible script tool for creating the WinPE Rescue Media that will allow you to add any additional device drivers that may be needed for different computer systems.

Should be good to go then.  Most hardware differences are at the bios level and occur with the SATA mode.  When RAID is using being used, that may require additional drivers.  If you're not using RAID, should be fine.  As an easy test, create your rescue media and boot it on each machine.  If it boots and you can see the hard drives and the location you intend to backup up to, you're in good shape.
