How easy is it?
Hi Folks,
New member here, and need a little input. I'll try to give you more information than needed, but that's better than not enough. My OS is Windows 7. After running 5 speed tests online, I came up with an average of of 89.12 download, and 12.27 upload. I don't think I'll use the cloud, but gave that info just in case.
I have an almost completely full 500GB HDD, that I'm replacing with a 1TB HDD, which will arrive in 4 days. My first priority would be to get everything on my current HDD onto my new one. Second priority is to have a backup in case something happens. I also have an external 1TB USB (black or blue) HDD that I can use for backup.
I have not yet bought acronis true image, but want to be sure I'll be able to use it. Most of the terminology I see on this site is over my head. I have no idea what most of it means. Acronis advertises it as 2 clicks, and you're done. But it doesn't seem to be that easy.
1. What would be the easiest way for me to accomplish this? Please keep in mind that I've never made a backup.
2. If the software tells me the backup was successful, can I trust it?
Merry Christmas everyone, Ed

Thank you very much Steve. I actually think I can do that!! :) Do you have any idea at all how long it will take to make the backup? 1 hour? 1 day? Overnight? I have a fairly fast computer.

I would say a fiar estimate of backup time for almost 500GB of data would be 8 hours. There are a good many factors that play a role in the speed at which a backup can be created. Since you are backing up to an external drive, probably USB connected, that connection will probably be your biggest bottleneck. You can help yourself out there a bit by connecting the external drive to a port on the back side of your computer rather than a front case mounted one.

Thank you again Steve. Now I have a rough idea how long it will take. I'll probably start it before going to bed. Merry Christmas!!
